Montreal Inbound By Kathy Hart

Sacramento Friendship Force hosted fourteen Ambassadors, thirteen from Montreal,

Canada and one from New York City. They were a wonderful group of lively people

who were engaged and interested in everything we did together. If you would like to

see some photos of the inbound journey, click here. We tried a few new local areas

while exploring with our Ambassadors which made it fun and a little different for

everyone. Thank you to all the volunteers who made the journey possible!

• November 15 Farewell to our friends

Our trip last year to Gifu

In October 2017, many of us were privileged

to join this awesome opportunity to experience

Japanese culture, and to make new friends. Our

home hosting was so special, with a variety of

stories of being introduced to other friends and

neighbors, fabulous food experiences, trying on

kimono, attempting to write calligraphy, an

elementary school visit, cormorant fishing and so

much more! We experienced the beauty of the country

and its people with such friendliness and caring.

Now it’s our chance to show Gifu Ambassadors

our Sacramento hospitality . . .

In return, our club is planning to show our

ambassadors a variety of California history and

culture, with a visit to the Wakamatsu Tea and Silk

Colony (the first Japanese settlement in California, in

1869), Marshall Gold Discovery site, we will watch the Veterans’ day parade followed by

a tour of the Capitol, visits to local history museums, bird watching at the Cosumnes

River Preserve to see the Sandhill Cranes, and a great day at Lake Tahoe. We will also

have a class with Japanese students at CSUS to visit a college campus and to see

language acquisition in progress. There will be delicious home hosted dinners on two

evenings, so there will be a chance to experience diverse cuisine in the home, as well

as at the welcome and farewell dinners. They will have the opportunity to experience a

traditional Thanksgiving dinner at Casa Garden where they will also have the chance to

learn about the Sacramento Children’s Home, which is supported by the restaurant and

the volunteers.

We look forward to returning the wonderful hospitality in welcoming our friends from

Gifu and in making new friends. Please join in the fun!

Shutterbugs By Rozlynn Worrall

Photos and Pizza Lunch Bunch

Shutterbugs explored a new venue and welcomed new photography enthusiast

Patty Fitzgerald to our meeting on Tuesday, October 23 at the Lunch Bunch Meetup at

the Round Table Clubhouse in Citrus Heights.

Our new meeting location was met with resounding approval from those

attending. The room was private, had an HD large screen TV to view photos, and the

buffet salad and pizza bar was great...and under $10.00 per person. Come and join

us. Open to all FFSAC members.

Our next Shutterbug Lunch Bunch Meeting will be held in the same location on

Thursday, November 29 from 1:00-3:00 pm. Start the buffet around 12:30 if you can

make it to the meeting, so that we can get the meeting started at 1:00. Register for the

meeting here.

Bring your smart phone. We will begin to learn how to really make your photos pop

with some editing techniques. In subsequent meetings, we will learn how to transfer the

skills we've learned and edit those photos on Snapseed, a free app for iPhone,

Androids, Macs and PCs.

November's Monthly FOCUS MF11 is Landscapes. Get started here with some

resources for you to check out so that you can get going on taking some great

landscape photos before all the leaves have fallen.

If you are online with

our Shutterbug Share Site,

upload your photos to the

MF11 Album before our

November 29 meeting. If

you are not yet online,

email your photos to [email protected]

and we will load them for

you.

Have questions, send

us a note at

[email protected].

Hope to see you on

November 29. Have a

great Thanksgiving-

Heath Ceramics Factory Tour By Emily Hopkins

It’s over a month away so put it on your calendar! We’re going to Heath Ceramics in

Sausalito on December 7. Signup online (here).

Come see the Sausalito working factory tour. Since 1959, each and every piece of the

dinnerware - start-to-finish- is made here by a team of 40 craftspeople. Designed in

1959 by Marquis & Stoller in collaboration with Edith & Brian Heath, the building’s light-

filled courtyard, showroom and sweeping semi-circle factory, emanate the values:

timeless, resourceful, human-scale, and a marriage of craft and design. Please note:

When visiting this factory, you will need to wear closed toe shoes and will be provided

safety glasses. This is a working factory environment. The tour is free. For more

information visit their website ( https://www.heathceramics.com/pages/sausalito ).

After the tour, lunch is available nearby (no host). There are a couple of nearby

attractions that we might see, as time allows (very close to the showroom):

• San Francisco Bay Model: designed by the Army Corps of Engineers to illustrate

how water moves through the SF Bay. It is free. It is half a mile from the Heath

factory and is open 9 am - 4 pm. For more information visit their website.

• Matthew Turner tall ship: If time allows, we may also tour the educational tall

ship, the Matthew Turner right next door to the model.

Again, register (here). Or RSVP to Emily Hopkins, and please include your city and zip

code to organize carpools.!
