President’s Message
The year is quickly coming to a close! I hope everyone will join us for our last meeting of the year on May 20 to hear from another one of ASHRAE’s Distinguished Lecturer. Dr. Andrey Livchak will present on Energy Efficient Solutions for Commercial Kitchen Ventilation. The meeting will be at the HESS Club. To register, please visit our website: http://ashraehouston.org/. Our leadership spent the weekend of April 23-25 in Fort Worth for the ASHRAE Region VIII Conference. It is always encouraging to see
how well our chapter performs within the region. We walked away from the conference with several awards and I know this trend will continue. We have great leaders throughout our local industry and I encourage everyone, especially consulting engineers, to stay involved in ASHRAE for the benefit of our industry. I would like to say THANK YOU to all of our sponsors and donors for the year. We have already reached our Research Promotion goal for the year, with two months to spare. We are on pace to break the Houston Chapter record for contributions towards RP. For any questions on how to participate in RP contributions or what this money goes towards, please contact Kimberly Thompson.
And finally, don’t let this truck be an illustration of your life….
See you on May 20 at the HESS Club!
I WILL
be wearing a party hat to celebrate my last meeting as chapter president. Elliot Millican, P.E. 2014-2015 ASHRAE Houston President

Student Activities
Summary: Our Student Activities Chair June Johnston has been active all year long and - in particular - with the Students at Texas A&M. She finished the year off with helping and guiding the students (along with Steve Redding and Mike Langton) on their ASHRAE Society HVAC Design Competition. In June’s own words: I wanted to share the photos (http://ashraehouston.org/gallery.php?id=48 ) from Wednesday night when Michael Langton, Steve Redding and I went to Texas A&M for their design competition presentation. The students, once again, did a fantastic job of presenting their project and have come a long way since starting this. Thank you Michael and Steve for giving very valuable feedback to the students; they were so grateful and took notes as you went over the design with them. This is such a valuable lesson for 6 students that had no understanding of HVAC prior to this competition. They send over their final report to ASHRAE National Monday the 4th and will send myself and Steve Redding a copy prior to that. I will share this with all of you as well.
Young Engineers in ASHRAE
The Young Engineers of ASHRAE has become a very successful group over the past few years for the Houston Chapter. The YEA group was formed to enhance member benefits for young professional ASHRAE members by giving them the opportunity to expand their knowledge about the industry, as well as socialize and network with other young professionals. Once a month, the members of YEA meet for lunch or happy hour. During these meetings members are able to talk with their fellow young professionals, meet new young professionals in the industry, as well as discuss the current happenings in the industry. These meetings are a great way for members to learn as well as teach others what they have learned about the industry. YEA also offers a few larger events each year. Lunch-and-learn events happen a few times a year in which different companies lecture and give tours of their facility and products, providing a better hands-on understanding. YEA is always welcoming new young professionals in the HVAC industry to participate. If you or anyone you know may be interested in getting involved, please contact Mitchell Campbell at 713-782-2701 or [email protected] Mitchell Campbell / Alex Roessler Young Engineers in ASHRAE Chair

Being on track is rarely workable.
Setbacks, swerves, and curves await everyone.
What’s needed is: resilience in the face of difficulty.
This means the ability to bounce back emotionally, to take no obstacle as a sign of one's inferiority, to establish a strong sense of self that external circumstances and other people cannot undermine. Written By Dr. Deepak Chopra MD (with slight modification)
