All are invited to participate. Orphan Blocks chairs Jane Kimberly and Jane Hill drew the winner of the blue and white teacup quilt - Suz-anne McGee . Tea caddies were won Margaret Starr and Pauline Igoe . Block of the Month chair Carol Pelligrinelli shared facts about the 1920‘s, the era of this year’s blocks She and cochair Jeannine Elique chose blocks by Sue Glasnapp and Natalie Aberhalden for the group quilt. Jan Finkelstein , Name Tag chair, drew the winner, Ellen Weston. Sue Glasnapp collected 57 quilts for the Little Quilt Auction of NQA. She especially thanked the Orphan Block Committee which donated 9. Quilts of Valor chairs Stormy Schevis and Kathy Cochrane re-ceived 15 completed quilts, 10 tops, and 54 blocks to be made into Thank a Veteran Sampler quilts. They introduced Katherine Miles , a return-ing soldier who is excited about learning to quilt. Sarla Malani won a kit to make another Quilt of Valor. Tip of the month by Toby Gluckstern - Keep an empty pill bottle near your sewing machine to dispose of discarded needles and pins safely. Meeting adjourned at 9 pm. Respectfully submitted, Toby Gluckstern , Re-cording Secretary

What’s the Buzz Around the Guild?

QUILTS FOR CARING Thank all of you that attended the cutting party on May 21st. We made 48 kits and had a very enjoyable morning. I so appreciate all the help in setting up and staying to put everything in the quilt mobile. This month we gave 40 quilts to the Florence Fuller Child Development and 30 quilts to the Pe-diatric Aids Unit at the Leonard Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. Everyone is so appreciative and they just love the quilts that you make. Thanks for caring!! Dotty Levine and Carol Esser

PILLOW PALS: HINTS, TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS (How to make the very best and have fun according to Aggie!)

FABRIC SELECTIONS:

Best to use a light color fabric that "reads like" a SOLID for the front panel, something that is not too busy so that the MOUTH, NOSE and LIPS can be seen. Use the BOLD and BRIGHT (and Juvenile) prints on the back and limbs.

STUFFING:

Put enough stuffing in your Pillow Pal so that it is not FLAT, but not so much that

it is HARD or STIFF. Use a MEDIUM amount of STUFFING so they can be soft and cuddly Check out mine at the PILLOW PAL table if you still need guid-ance.

OPENING/CLOSURE:

Although the original PILLOW PAL directions suggest leaving an opening on the SIDE of the doll to add the stuffing, I have found an easier way. After attach-

ing the ARMS & LEGS to the front panel and sewing the GCQG LABEL on the back panel. Then, put the RIGHT SIDES of the PANELS together and sew across the BOTTOM and BOTH SIDES, leaving the TOP open all the way across. TURN your Pillow Pal RIGHT SIDE out, then STUFF it. Finally, sew ACROSS the top

turning under the RAW edges and stitch with ZIG ZAG or OVERCAST stitch. Remember, no hair!

LABELS:

Be sure and sew on a GOLD COAST QUILT GUILD label on the back of your Pil-low Pal before turning it in. If you forget to sew on the label while you are mak-ing your Pillow Pal, you can pick one up at the Pillow Pal table when you come to

the meeting and sew it on during the meeting and then turn it in before you leave. No Pillow Pals are distributed to agencies without a GCQG label.

Any questions, feel free to call me, Aggie Vecchio, 954-561-3292. PS. Remember, your time and love is appreciated by each & every child who receives a Gold Coast Quilt Guild Pillow Pal, so make each one your very best!
