Activist, entrepreneur, public speaker, Washington D.C. powerbroker, and passionate advocate of women’s political engagement, Sarah Chamberlain plays many roles. As President of the Republican Main Street Partnership, Sarah runs an organization that supports the governing wing of the Republican Party in Congress. And as the creator and facilitator of the Women2Women National Conversations Tour, Sarah has become one of the most important national voices calling for women to become involved in the political process. She became the first executive director of the John Quincy Adams Society and helped to establish the Republican Main Street Partnership, which now has over 70 members of Congress and leaders from business, education, and the professions. The Women2Women National Conversations Tour brings Main Street’s Congresswomen together with bipartisan gatherings of women across the country. Its aim is to spark dialogue between legislators and everyday citizens about how women are personally affected by what happens in government, and give voice to women around the country. She has written for the Washington Post, U.S. News & World Report, and other national publications, and she is a regular columnist for The Hill newspaper. She has been profiled in the New York Times and featured on numerous media programs including MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and “Fox & Friends” on the Fox News Channel. "THE BATTLING BOYS OF BENGHAZI "

We're the battling boys of Benghazi, No fame, no glory, no paparazzi.

Just a fiery death in a blazing hell, Defending our country, we loved so well.

It wasn't our job, but we answered the call, Fought to the Consulate and scaled the wall.

We pulled twenty countrymen from the jaws of fate Led them to safety and stood at the gate. Just the two of us and foes by the score,

But we stood fast to bar the door. Three calls for reinforcement, but all were denied,

So we fought and we fought and we fought 'til we died. We gave our all for our Uncle Sam,

But Barack and Hillary didn't give a damn. Just two dead Seals who carried the load

No thanks to us...we were just "Bumps In The Road".

Conundrum

The definition of the word Conundrum is something that is puzzling or confusing.

Free people are not equal. Equal people are not free. (Think this one over and over…makes sense!)

"A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don't have one, you'll probably never need one again."

Here are six Conundrums of socialism in the United States of America:

1. America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized. 2. Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims. 3. They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government. 4. Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer. 5. The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about. 6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

Think about it! And that, my friends, pretty much sums up the USA in the 21st Century. Makes you wonder who is doing the math.

These three, short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our current government and cultural environment:

1. We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Funny how that works. And here's another one worth considering… 2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. But we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money ! What's interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second didn't.

Think about it.....and Last but not least : 3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but we are not stopping the payments or benefits to illegal aliens. Am I the only one missing something? "If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools." – Plato

Imagine N.O.W. Imagine Nurturing Our Warriors, Ltd. Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment for Veterans

Research shows hyperbaric oxygen therapy can be an effective treatment for traumatic brain injury and reduce brain injury-related Veteran suicide. However, until insurers cover its cost a group of Veteran advocates will bring this much-needed therapy to Veterans and when needed to Veteran families through Imagine Nurturing Our Warriors, Ltd, a Nevada nonprofit charitable foundation operating as “Imagine N.O.W.” founded by Janet Franco and Barry Meuse. A Nevada branch of the IHMF (International Hyperbaric Medical Foundation.)

In 2006, Janet Franco a 25-yr. radio personality on complementary medicine, was asked to help the Veterans; she then dedicated her career to this mission, and became an advocate for the Veterans. 2012 she learned the

value of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in resolving post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury having been mentored in the science by the nation’s leading hyperbaric oxygen researcher and clinician, Dr. Paul Harch (HBOT.com) plus Rob Beckman, PhD, founder of the Treat Now Coalition dedicated to organizing hyperbaric oxygen clinics nationwide to treat Veterans and Marty Hoffman, former Secretary of the Army, an advocate for hyperbaric oxygen therapy for the military. Before dying, Marty encouraged Janet to fulfill their dream of treating traumatic brain injury and reducing Veteran suicide.

Veterans suffering from PSTD or TBI share similar symptoms including headaches, sleeplessness, loss of short-term memory, executive function and bouts of anger often escalating to rage. These symptoms can be so severe that they can’t hold a job, engage in risky behaviors and fail in personal relationships – all of which can lead to homelessness, courtroom appearances and sadly, suicide.

Janet recognized that the S. Nevada Veteran community is a prime location to launch Imagine N.O.W. Center due to the high suicide rate. Her dreams became more evident once she met Barry Meuse in 2015 that provided her with an enterprise partner that moved the project from a vision to closer to reality.

Barry Meuse, a former Air Force combat fighter pilot and Member of the Board of Directors of the International Hyperbaric Medical Foundation has been active in Veteran issues and an advocate for bringing hyperbaric oxygen therapy to Veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. Later, Chere’ Pedersen, a well-known Veteran advocate and former Nevada Blue Star Mother Chapter President came onboard as Executive Director of Imagine N.O.W.

Because hyperbaric oxygen therapy for TBI and PSTD is currently not cleared by the Federal Drug Administration it is not reimbursable by the Veterans Administration or most insurance carriers so Imagine NOW must raise funds from donations to pay for treatment.

To assure a reliable source of funds, in addition to founding Imagine N.O.W. Janet established the Pay It Forward Network International, LLC (PIFN) focused on sales and marketing, with up to half its profits designated for Imagine NOW. This will come in accordance with her new radio show, ‘Pay It Forward Network.’ on KKVV Christian station 1060am, Friday’s 3:30-5pm-starting September 2nd, 2016.

The established protocol for PSTD and TBI calls for 80 one-hour sessions or ‘dives’ at one or two dives a day. Including competent medical oversight and a research protocol, essential to obtain publishable results, brings the price for one 80-dive treatment to around $25K per Veteran.

Imagine N.O.W. is in the process of raising the five million dollars to build the Imagine N.O.W. Veterans Treatment Center . PIFN will host a Celebrity fundraiser and presentation on October 8th at the Inspire Theatre, to include several experts in hyperbaric oxygen therapy; and Veterans who have been treated (will share their story.) This Republican mayor has an incredibly simple idea to help the homeless. And it seems to be working.

is celebrating the one year anniversary of the city’s successful "There’s a Better Way” program. (Albuquerque Mayor's Office)

Republican Mayor Richard Berry was driving around Albuquerque last year when he saw a man on a street corner holding a sign that read: “Want a Job. Anything Helps.”

Throughout his administration, as part of a push to connect the homeless population to services, Berry had taken to driving through the city to talk to panhandlers about their lives. His city’s poorest residents told him they didn’t want to be on the streets begging for money, but they didn’t know where else to go.

Seeing that sign gave Berry an idea. Instead of asking them, many of whom feel dispirited, to go out looking for work, the city could bring the work to them.

Next month will be the first anniversary of Albuquerque’s There’s a Better Way program, which hires panhandlers for day jobs beautifying the city. In partnership with a local nonprofit that serves the homeless population, a van is dispatched around the city to pick up panhandlers who are interested in working. The job pays $9 an hour, which is above minimum wage, and provides a lunch. At the end of the shift, the participants are offered overnight shelter as needed.

In less than a year since its start, the program has given out 932 jobs clearing 69,601 pounds of litter and weeds from 196 city blocks. And more than 100 people have been connected to permanent employment.

“You can just see the spiral they’ve been on to end up on the corner. Sometimes it takes a little catalyst in their lives to stop the downward spiral, to let them catch their breath, and it’s remarkable,” Berry said in an interview. ”They’ve had the dignity of work for a day; someone believed in them today.”

Berry’s effort is a shift from the movement across the country to criminalize panhandling. A recent National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty report found a noticeable increase, with 24 percent of cities banning it altogether and 76 percent banning it in particular areas.

There is a persisting stigma that people begging for money are either drug addicts or too lazy to work and are looking for an easy handout.

But that’s not necessarily the reality. Panhandling is not especially lucrative and it’s demoralizing, but for some people it can seem as if it’s the only option. When panhandlers have been approached in Albuquerque with the offer of work, most have been eager for the opportunity to earn money, Berry said. They just needed a lift. One man told him no one had said a kind word to him in 25 years.

Kellie Tillerson, director of Employment Services at St. Martin’s Hospitality Center, the organization that facilitates the city’s program, said the way to dispel people of the negative associations with panhandlers is for them to do what the mayor did and engage on a human level.

“Genuinely ask why they are in the predicament they are,” Tillerson said. “Many have medical conditions, they don’t have the proper identification — you can’t get a job without one. They don’t have a Social Security card. Those little things we take for granted prohibit people from getting a job. Don’t assume they are lazy.”

Albuquerque…. A Simple Idea That Is Working continued from page 5

Mayor Berry takes a lunch break with There’s a Better Way workers. (Courtesy: City of Albuquerque Mayor’s Office)

There’s a Better Way van employs about 10 workers a day but could easily take more. When the van fills, people have begged to get a spot next time, she said. That’s why the city has increased funding for the program to expand it from two to four days a week. And it inspired St. Martin’s to start its own day labor program, connecting the jobless to employers in the area who could offer side jobs. Tillerson said a lot of the people who get picked up by the van were not aware of all the services available to them. One man who recently got out of pris-

on returned to St. Martin’s the day after taking one of the city’s jobs. She said it enrolled him in the day-labor program, told him about behavioral health services and are helping him get an ID.

“It’s helping hundreds of people,” Berry said, “and our city is more beautiful than ever.”

DID YOU KNOW

By: Sydney S. Ingram

“The way to right wrongs is to shine the light of truth upon them” Ida B. Wells-Barnett

Did you know that Davy Crockett, Frederick Douglas, Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, Booker T. Washington and Ida B. Wells were all REPUBLICANS???? They didn’t teach that in my history classes. My favorite is Ida B. Wells (1862-1931). She was a fearless anti-lynching crusader, suffragist, women rights advocate, journalist, and speaker. She stands as one of our nation’s most uncompromising leaders and most ardent defenders of democracy. Ida was born into slavery as one of seven children of James and Lizzie Wells. Once free thanks to the Emancipation Proclamation, her parents became active in the Republican Party. One of James’ most significant contributions was starting Shaw University (now Rust College), a college for freed slaves. He and Lizzie continued working for justice and opportunities for black people until their deaths. There was never any question in Ida’s mind about a college education or where her focus would be. Once graduating she continued her parents fight for racial and gender justice. She became a tireless worker for women’s suffrage and Black justice. Ida was particularly incensed by the frequent lynching of Black men done as a means to maintain Southern order and to discourage Black economic ventures that would compete with white business. She didn’t hesitate to challenge President Woodrow Wilson in the White House over his racist segregation of the federal work force. Along with Jane Addams she successfully blocked the establishment of segregated schools in Chicago. In 1895 Wells married Chicago attorney F.L. Barnett and raised four children. Ida passed away in 1931 after

a lifetime crusading for justice and a lifetime as a Republican.

In Memory of Petra Frazer A SHRW member since 2010, Petra lost her valiant fight against Cancer in August. Besides the many friends she made in SHRW, she left behind her husband David with whom she had been in the real estate business for many years along with Jan Giroir. Petra and David have three children who live out of state.

Rest in Peace Petra, you will be missed by many.
