Holiday Luncheon - left to right: Bill McNulty, Peter Killie, Nick Witkowich, and in foreground, Special Guest BiILL McNAMARA. Its that dreaded time again when I must sit down and put together my president s message. The good news is that a few things have transpired making the task a lot easier this time around(smile). I am pleased to inform the membership that our partnership with the Three Strohm Sisters Family Foundation was a home run. The event raised enough funds to enable the foundation to donate twenty thousand dollars in Wade Jason Williamsname to Stony Brook Childrens Hospital. A similar amount was do- nated to The Childrens Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Canada, in memory of Detective Robert BobBoyne. A big shout out to lodge member Paul Attardo who reached the age when he no longer pays dues. However, Paul sent his dues and then some as a donation to the Three Sisters event; thanks Paul. Paul and I worked together back in the day as radio dispatchers when the job was fun. I remem- ber those 12 to 8 tours and Paul s venison stew along with Lieutenant Stanley Fergusons catering job leftovers. Thinking back, we enjoyed coming to work; I guess that s what made our job so great. The Holiday Winter Luncheon was nice with a few new faces, but some familiar faces were not there. We missed seeing regular attendees Joe Keeney and Pete Zarrella. During our luncheon the N.Y. State F.O.P. Foundation was honored with a distinguished time piece donation from Tourneau Watches. The presentation was made by Tourneaus Northeast Vice President Andrew Turrin along with Kristy Jiang and Kristina Franco. The N.Y.S. F.O.P. Foundation will utilize the watch in 2020 to raise funds. I hope to generate enough money to expand the community outreach events that are in place and create some new ones. The lodge members in attendance put their full support behind this venture to expand our outreach for the greater good. After all, community outreach is a major part of NYPDs community polic- ing; and, we know where this type of policing began (smile). I know that our new National President Pat- rick Yoes wants to build a stronger Fraternal Order of Police bond with the public which has always been my goal. Also, in that old Housing Police tradition we made Andrew, Kristy and Kristina honorary members of Lodge 997; welcome aboard. I hope to see you at the next luncheon. Fraternally, Bob Lodge 997, Stronger, Bigger, Better Connected

It’s that dreaded time again when I must sit down and put together my president’s message. The good news is that a few things have transpired making the task a lot easier this time around(smile). It’s that time of year again. Yes, it’s the Holiday Season, but it’s also BJ’s renewal time. Members are reminded that they cannot renew their club membership on their own – all renewals (and new members joining our club) must be done by the Lodge. Therefore, all Lodge members are re-minded that all renewing and new BJ’s members must submit their renew-al/membership fees to the Lodge by Feb. 16

th, 2020. The cost is $30.00

(this includes tax) for each membership card, and “yes” you can have only one card. Any questions regarding BJ’s should be directed to Pat Cirincione at [email protected]. Those joining or renewing are directed to please print your name and address clearly and make your check paya-ble to FOP Lodge #997, and send it to FOP Lodge #997, C/O Pat Cirincione, at 5 Rita Crescent, Commack, NY 11725.

BJ’S Wholesale Club Renewal

COURTESY CARDS

Note: With all our new members we felt we should reprint this arti-cle.)

In your packet you will find a Grand Lodge FOP Courtesy Card (sorry, on-ly Active Mem-bers). Each active mem-ber receives just one card and it can be given to any-one - a family member, a friend, etc. The purpose of the Courtesy Card is for you to request that the courtesies of the organiza-tion be extended to the person to whom you have given the card. Please fill out the card as fol-lows: On the front put in the name of the person to whom you are giving the card. On the back where it says, "Presented By" put your name. Where it says "Title" put Member of NYS FOP Housing Po-lice Lodge #997. The bottom of the card is then signed by the person to whom you gave the card - NOT YOU! That's it. Hopefully, the person never needs to use the card, however, they have it if they do need it. Please, everyone re-member that there are no guarantees, and that a lit-tle respect and courtesy goes a long way when dealing with any-one. Good luck - Pat C.

TO ALL OUR

NEW MEMBERS, AND MEMBERS WHO HAVE RE-

JOINED, WE SAY,

“WELCOME ABOARD"

ITEMS OF INTEREST

PASSWORD – The National FOP President, Patrick Yoes, has chosen “UNITED”as the National FOP Password for 2020.

ABOVE AND BEYOND – Each year we like to recognize our Members and Friends who have gone above and be-yond to show loyalty and fraternalism to our Lodge, and who support the efforts of law enforcement. Steve Radacinski, Charlie Rubin, Joe Keeney, Jeanne Woods, and Ira Furman for their donations. And the NYPD PBA through Rich Diana and Tony Milo for their purchase of two tables at our Winter Luncheon. And special recogni-tion for Andrew Turrin of Tourneau Watches for his do-nation of an exquisite watch to the FOP Foundation which is headed by our President, Bob Nero.

SPRING LUNCHEON MEETING – Just a “heads up” - Our Spring Luncheon meeting will be in early May, how-ever, the date and venue are yet to be determined. This will be an important meeting because at this meeting we will elect our delegates to the State FOP Conference which is scheduled for Oct. 25

th-26

th, at the Albany Mar-

riott Hotel in Albany, NY. We will also be electing our Lodge State Trustee. More details in our Spring news-letter.

FOP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – This year, on behalf of the Class of “73” Reunion, we will again contribute to the NYS FOP Scholarship Program, thus making the children of our Members eligible for a scholarship. How-ever, the new applications for the Program are not yet available. Please periodically check the NYS FOP web site (nysfop.org) for the new applications and the eligibil-ity requirements. In addition, we will post the application on our web site (fop997.org) as soon as we receive it.

MISSING OR INCORRECTLY SPELLED NAMES – If we missed you in the “Greetings” list, or if your name is spelled incorrectly, please notify us for a correction. With almost 900 Members sometimes things fall through the cracks. Mea Culpa.

DUES REMINDER – Maybe it slipped your mind and you haven’t yet paid your dues for 2020, it’s not too late. Make your check payable to FOP Lodge #997, $45 for Active or $50 for Associate Members, and send it to FOP Lodge #997, 5 Rita Crescent, Commack, NY, 11725.

LODGE RENEWAL – CHECKS DEPOSITED

& STATE FOP ID CARDS

Each year we receive several inquiries regarding the status of checks sent in and/or returns from the State FOP of FOP ID card applications. We would like to use this article to explain our renewal process. Every Fall, with our Fall newslet-ter, we include membership renewal info with a due date of November 1st. We do this because that is the date the State gives us to ensure that our lodge renewal is on time. We have more than 800 members (Active and Associate) so you can see that it is a busy time for us. With that volume of work it is impractical to run to the bank every time we receive a few re-newal checks, so we hold all the renewal checks until after we renew our lodge with the State – usually the first week of No-vember. This is why, even though you may have sent in your renewal check in September or early October, it may not show up on your November bank statement. (However, if you sent your renewal check in on time and it is not on your December bank statement, you should contact us to make sure that we received it). The other issue that we would like to explain is the FOP ID card renewal process. We do not collect for any renewal of State FOP ID cards. That process is handled in its entirety by the State FOP. What has happened in the past is that a member has sent in his/her dues for the upcoming year to our lodge, and then has sent in an application to the State for a new FOP ID card. However, if the application is received by the State before we have renewed the lodge for the upcom-ing year the State will return the application to the member. Remem-ber, you must be a paid up member AND the lodge must have renewed for the upcoming year before the State will process an ID card application. What we recommend is that a member check our web site – www.fop997.org – in early November. When we renew our lodge with the State we will put a notice on our web site. When that notice is posted you can check your bank statement to verify that your check was processed. When you have verified that you are paid for the upcoming year you can send in your FOP ID card application to the State. We hope this article has cleared up some of the questions you may have had re-garding the subject matter. However, if other issues arise please con-tact me at [email protected] and I’ll try to resolve them. Frater-nally. Pat Cirincione, Lodge Secretary.
