Meeting at Bracebridge Memorial Arena, 169 James St, Bracebridge, On 2nd Floor

Second Thursday of the month 1-3pm

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Hello Everyone:

Sometimes it appears the world is changing so fast, we can't keep up. With all the tragedies that have happened over the last month alone, we appear to be doomed.

However, October is a month of thanksgiving where we get together with family and friends and remem-ber all we are thankful for.

Last newsletter I was complaining about the rain, but I'm not complaining now after the great month we've had.

We have a volunteer for the “Block of the Month”. Suzanne Brochu Ranta is going to start in Novem-ber.

See you all on October 12th and “HAPPY THANKS-GIVING”.

Nancy Lynch, President

SEPTEMBER BOUTIQUE, 2nd chance

As there were a number of people away at the Sep-tember meeting, we will have a table set up with the remaining Boutique items that are being offered at ½ price. This will be the last opportunity for this mo-ment. :)

MEMBERSHIP

Good Day ladies Well I am having a good trip out here in the beau-tiful mountains of BC. As I had mentioned in the last news letter I will not be at the October meet-ing. I have asked Barb Colburn to sit in for me while I am away. She will have the renewal enve-lopes with her. When you sign in if the box you are checking is yellow it means you did not pay. Please get an envelope and give it back to Barb with a check or cash for $25.00. Please fill out the envelope so I can make sure all the infor-mation is correct in my membership book. I have also sent the new membership packages which will be on the table. I like to apologize for not get-ting these out at the first meeting. Everybody en-joy your fall as winter will be on us soon enough see everyone in November. Cheers, Margie Sharples , Membership Executive

DUO CONCERTANTE

Music Concert

Gravenhurst Opera House

October 22, 2017 @ 2:00 p.m.

At the September meeting Bill Bogers presented the opportunity of purchasing a ticket for $2.50 to attend the Muskoka Concert Association's first concert of the season on October 22, 2017 @ 2:00 p.m. The feature is the Duo Concertante, a husband and wife team. There are approximate-ly 10 tickets still available if you are interested. There will be a table at our October meeting where you can pick up the tickets.

The purpose of this special offer is to allow expo-sure to these great concerts that you may not be aware off. As the Pine Tree Quilters' Guild of Muskoka are the recipients of this offer for Octo-ber, there will be special recognition of our group during the concert that will inform the other guests what our Guild is about and the communi-ty outreach that we are involved in.

So don't miss out on this great offer!!!!!

Thanks, Sue Bogers

PROGRAM COMMITTEE

This month we welcome Janet Slater who will be pre-senting her trunk show. Janet is a professional long-arm quilter with 20 years of quilting experience and many more of creative sewing. She has a studio in a historic school house in Mono, Ontario - one hour north of Toronto. (www.createwithjanet.ca) Janet is a certified “Square in a Square” instructor who has taught at the Creativ Festival in Toronto, and she has provided workshops across the province. Janet will be facilitating her “Bugle Boy” Square in a Square work-shop at the Sportplex on Friday, October 12. There are two (2) spots left if you would like to join us (call Donna at 645-3182). If you have signed up for the workshop, please make sure you come prepared with your fabrics pre-cut according to the instructions in the email from Donna.

Our November guest is Joni Newman of Quirks and Quilts (www.quirksandquilts.com). Some of you may have met Joni at Muskoka Quilting where she has con-ducted a number of classes. Her lecture is called “A Quilting Retrospective” and she will be educating us with her workshop on free-motion quilting in shapes using your domestic machine. A sign-up sheet and materials list will be available at the guild meeting. The cost of the workshop is $25.00.

Remember to consider “resolving” to complete one of your UFO’s this year. Complete a resolution card from the front table and get working on that unfinished pro-ject!

Thank you to those of you who have provided us with great suggestions for future guests. Please keep these recommendations coming!

See you at the meeting.

Joyce MacKay and Donna Naylor

LIBRARY NEWS

By: Jan McDonnell

There are lots of new (or at least new to us!) books that will be in the library this month, thanks to a generous donation. Rather than put in a detailed description of each book, I’ve listed the books and the number where you can find them on the shelf or in Collectorz. There will also be quite a few books, magazines and patterns on the donation table this month. Some are there because we already have them in our library. Be sure to bring some money and plan to spend a little time browsing through them on the library table in the back corner. We are going to have to either refurbish the li-brary cart or get a new one this year. Perry has read us the riot act and said the one we have is too heavy and therefore not safe. Also, we are running out of room for the books and storage for other stuff we need at the meetings. So I will be doing some research on some options for us in the next couple of months. If you have any ideas, email me or come and see me at one of the meetings. Proposed Paducah Kentucky Bus Trip

April 30 to May 4, 2018

There will be a Trip table set up at the October meet-ing. If you are interested in going on this trip, please bring your $350 deposit cheque made out to the Pine Tree Quilters' Guild of Muskoka along with your regis-tration form. We need 32 confirmed to make this trip ago and will need to make the decision by the end of the meeting in order to do the bookings.

A reminder that this is not during the Paducah Quilt show as there was not local accommodation plus the trip would have to be longer in order to fit everything in. The trip that is being offered takes 1 ½ days to get there, 1 ½ days in Paduccah and 1 ½ days to get home.

The Paduccah Tour Brochure and registration form is included at the end of this newsletter as well in case you need to print the form off. (this is the same one that was handed out at the last meeting).

Thanks

Sue
