Here we are again, heading into winter. At this me of the year many of our members head off to a warmer climate. Take care, dont forget to visit our website now and then. A reminder regarding the Windows 10 update 1903. Microsoſt will no longer pushthe update onto our computers. When the update is ready for your machine, there will be a Noce advising you in the Update and Security page. It is then up to the individual to invite the update into the machine. Make sure you visit the update and security page to see if the update is ready for you. If people do not invite the update, Microsoſt will eventually pushthe update thru. Later in the year we have some lessons coming up which will require students using their own laptops to make sure they have a Microsoſt ID registered with Microsoſt. The first two of these lessons will be - Download from the Microsoſt Store (plus other bits and pieces) and fun with Paint 3D, both in July. These lessons will be open for booking shortly. So to avoid any confusion of people booking and then not being able to do the lessons, please ask me if you are not sure what a Microsoſt ID is and how you get one if you feel you do not have such a thing. It is actually a Microsoſt email address. We will not be able to use the Library computers, due to the fact we cannot have the Microsoſt IDs for the machines. So it will be a case of your own laptops or one of our Group machines, of which we have a limited number. I hope everyone read my email on the Windows 10 Security system. What started off as a reasonable not too aggressive program has turned out to be just that—aggressive and domineering. It is of course up to individuals to decide what they use on their machines. As I said in my email, earlier in the month, aſter the 4th July, students coming to class with the Windows 10 Security System, Controlled folder Access, switched on, will be required to switch it off for the duraon of the lesson. I further menoned the FREE program offered to Telstra customers using a Telstra NBN modem. The program being similar to Trend Micro. If you feel you did not get the email, then please check the Email Trash bin. Thats it from me …….. Peggy

President Peggy’s Comments.

Here we are again, heading into winter. At this time of the year many of our members head off to a warmer climate. Take care, don’t forget to visit our website now and then. A reminder regarding the Windows 10 update 1903. Microsoft will no longer “push” the update onto our computers. When the update is ready for your machine, there will be a Notice advising you in the Update and Security page. It is then up to the individual to invite the update into the machine. Make sure you visit the update and security page to see if the update is ready for you. If people do not invite the update, Microsoft will eventually “push” the update thru. Later in the year we have some lessons coming up which will require students using their own laptops to make sure they have a Microsoft ID registered with Microsoft. The first two of these lessons will be - Download from the Microsoft Store (plus other bits and pieces) and fun with Paint 3D, both in July. These lessons will be open for booking shortly. So to avoid any confusion of people booking and then not being able to do the lessons, please ask me if you are not sure what a Microsoft ID is and how you get one if you feel you do not have such a thing. It is actually a Microsoft email address. We will not be able to use the Library computers, due to the fact we cannot have the Microsoft ID’s for the machines. As I said in my email, earlier in the month, after the 4th July, students coming to class with the Windows 10 Security System, Controlled folder Access, switched on, will be required to switch it off for the duration of the lesson. I further mentioned the FREE program offered to Telstra customers using a Telstra NBN modem. The program being similar to Trend Micro. Ever wanted to use a larger font in Word, or Power Point than is offered in the drop down list. Just follow these simple instructions…... Click in the font size box.

The new size will appear on the page.

Type in the size for the font you wish to use. i.e. 200 Just type normally on the keyboard.

Word Keyboard Shortcuts.

Emoji: To open the emoji picker, hold the Windows key down and press either the period (.) or semicolon (;) key. then click on the emoji to insert it into the document. Tip: Use the Icon buttons, at the bottom of emoji display, to change to a different range of emojis. Screen Snip: To open Screen Snip press Shift+Windows Key+S

More Word Keyboard Shortcuts. Highlight a Square Field of Text in a document:

A feature that will only be useable in very specific cases. If you hold down the Alt key while you click and drag your

mouse, you will be able to draw a box within the document that will highlight all the characters in that box.

Change font colour to create a perfect square of different coloured text in the middle of a chunk of text.

Show Hidden Characters:

If you are working on a complex document with different styles, columns, and formats, you might soon find that

something seems a little… off. Perhaps an extra space between paragraphs or excess spaces in the middle of sentences.

The best way to see what's going on is to make all the invisible marks (hard returns, soft returns, tabs, spaces) visible.

To turn this function on and off press Ctrl+Shift+8.

After selecting text.

Start typing immediately to replace the text – you don’t have to press Delete first. Pressing the Menu key, if you have one on the keyboard, will right click the selection, giving you the options drop-box. Editing. You can really speed up text-editing by using the Ctrl keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste text. Ctrl+C, or Ctrl+Insert – Copy selected text. Ctrl+X, or Shift+Delete – Cut selected text. Ctrl+V, or Shift+Insert – Paste text at cursor. Ctrl+B — Bold Ctrl+I — Italic Ctrl+U — Underline. Ctrl and + — Makes it subscript (subscript) Ctrl+ shift and + — Makes it superscript (superscript) Ctrl+1 — Single line spacing Ctrl+5 — 1.5 line spacing Ctrl+2 — Double line spacing Ctrl+Z — Undo Ctrl+Y — Redo Ctrl+S — Save Document. Windows 10 offers improved support for Snap You can now snap windows vertically, one on top of each other, instead of side-by-side or snap windows to a 2×2 grid. Windows Key + Left arrow – Snap current window to the left side of the screen. Windows Key + Right arrow – Snap current window to the right side of the screen. Windows Key + Up arrow – Snap current window to the top of the screen. Windows Key + Down arrow – Snap current window to the bottom of the screen. Combine these shortcuts to snap into a corner — for example, Windows Key + Left and then Windows Key + Up would snap a window into the top-left quadrant of the screen. (You can also use the mouse — drag and drop a window to the left or right edges of your screen or drag and drop them into one of the four corners to snap into quadrants.) When you have several windows open at a time, rather than minimizing each window separately, pressing the Windows Key+D will minimise them all, leaving you back at the desktop.

Quick Tips. Start typing immediately after you press the Windows key to search for programs, settings, and files. Quickly open the print window by pressing Ctrl + P. (This can be faster than hunting down the Print option in every program you want to print something from.) The fastest way to lock your screen is by quickly pressing Windows Key + L before you get up. To delete one full word at a time. Move the cursor to the end of the word you want to delete. Press Ctrl +backspace key Ctrl+Up Arrow – Move cursor to beginning of paragraph. Ctrl+Down Arrow – Move cursor to end of paragraph. Ctrl+Left Arrow – Move cursor to beginning of previous word. Ctrl+Right Arrow – Move cursor to beginning of next word Ctrl+Backspace – Delete previous word. Ctrl+Delete – Delete next word.
