Miss Kathey’s Academy for the Performing Arts classes will emphasize the assortment of styles that are seen on Broadway. Classes will include Stage Movement,
Voice, Drama, Musical Theater, Tap, and Ballet. Summer Boot Camp: An intense workshop which combines training in acting, voice and dance – the triple
threat - will be held in July and August. “The Final Edge”, a finishing school that will develop your child’s social and professional skills. Our youth today need to understand the guidelines for social interactions.
We will not only equip them to succeed in today’s global marketplace, but they will enjoy a greater level of confidence that will carry them throughout their lifetime. Developing skills and manners, increase
confidence and the art of communication from the playground to the boardroom, Miss Kathey’s students are a cut above!
O ur dear friends,
Thank you for coming!
Welcome to the celebration of our 45th year. Some have said, “It is the start that stops most people.”
Our start was pretty simple and very inauspicious. It all began in a church parking lot on a hot 4th of July. The crowd was huge and sat in lawn chairs, spread blankets on the ground or stood. But we sang and played out hearts out…and people wanted more.
Since that first concert we have taken Music to Russia, Finland, Israel…we published choral books, made CD’s and DVD’s and TV specials and too many things to include here and now.
But we did start and we are here tonight because people like you have supported our special brand of productions and made it possible for us to meet your invited friends.
We have never allowed our fears to hold us back from pursuing our hopes and dreams.
Just a few short years ago we birthed Miss Kathey’s Academy for the Performing Arts. This
marvelous school now has branches in St. Louis and Branson, MO., with more to come. We believe that building great youth is better than mending them. Our special thanks to all our special friends who faithfully help to underwrite these kids at Miss Kathey’s Academy. You will see them today…and perhaps then you will want to become a part of the support system that makes all of this possible. You may wonder what drives us onward.
Every day we set our minds on the 10 “P’s” for success.
Plan Purposefully. Plant Profusely. Prepare Prayerfully. Proceed Positively. Pursue Persistently.
The world tends to step aside for those who know where they are going. Come along with us.
Most Warmly,
Thurlow &Kathey Spurr

SYNOPSIS
Act III takes place at the expanded and improved Bethlehem Inn where there is a reunion celebrating Jesus’ birthday. This reunion takes place five years after Jesus was crucified and rose again.
Invited guests were not only those who were at the Inn the night of Jesus’ birth but a host of people whose lives were touched and transformed because of His life and ministry. They came from everywhere with their children and families to sing and tell of the things that happened the night Christ was born, and to remember the days and years that followed which changed the entire world. Come with us now, back to the little town of Bethlehem and experience… A Night to Remember.

For 5 years, The Rob Mills Family traveled the country to sing for thousands of people. In that time, they saw countless numbers of people come to the life changing touch of Jesus Christ. At the start of 2017, Rob and his two sons decided to begin a new chapter in their careers. Rob, Levi, and Jacob now travel and perform as The Sound. Be sure to come by their merchandise table to get your copy of The Sound’s new Christmas project Oh, The Wonder and visit www.thesound.org for their upcoming concert schedule. The entire Mills Family is thrilled to be a part of this fantastic program once again. “From our family to yours, Merry Christmas!” -Rob Mills
In one of his latest endeavors, he has created one of unique and incredible anthologies of the worlds most beloved and enduring music called The Thurlow Spurr Collection. Arranged for concert piano and orchestra it is a unique collection of the world’s greatest and most loved hymns, love songs, Broadway hits and classical pieces, as well as the finest patriotic and Christmas music.
Thurlow Spurr is a man dedicated to working for the Kingdom of God. A man of great passion, known not only for his musical prowess, but also for his motivational skills, he continues to captivate audiences the world over with an infectious enthusiasm for his craft, his flair for dramatic stage direction and his dedication to a higher standard of excellence and presentation.
However, Spurr contends that his greatest accomplishment is personal. Today Thurlow lives in Orlando, Florida and is happily married to Kathey, an accomplished vocalist, pianist and constant companion. They are blessed with a 17-year-old daughter, Maddie Mae.

directorsTHURLOW SPURRPRODUCER/DIRECTOR
The word “legendary” is often used too generously these days. To be considered legendary, a musician needs to build a practical and enduring body of work – a work that continues to influence people over the years. In this instance, “legendary”
is the perfect word to describe Thurlow Spurr. When one person can lay claim to a resume of producing and directing over 20,000 live shows (from the U.S. to North Korea, South Korea, the Kremlin in Russia, and several trips to Israel) in 50 years, as well as produce over 100 audio and video recordings and command performances for four U.S. Presidents--Nixon, Carter, Ford, and Reagan-- it becomes quite clear the incredible impact Thurlow Spurr has made on the gospel music industry.
In 1959, he created a traveling gospel group called The Spurrlows. The Spurrlows became so popular and renowned for their ability to communicate that the Chrysler Corporation hired them to represent Chrysler in over 3,000 concerts worldwide. The Spurrlows were just the first of many traveling groups formed by Thurlow himself. In the past five decades, he has assembled over 50 different groups for road shows around the world.
He has been connected with booking and management for well-known artists in the Christian music field such as Dino, Karen Wheaton and Larnelle Harris. Still represented by Spurr, Larnelle Harris
continues to travel the world as one of the premier vocalists of our generation. Thurlow’s contributions and achievements vary from Musical Director for the annual Dove Awards to Producer of dozens of award–winning television specials, as well as hundreds of daily and weekly television shows. He has produced shows such as The Bob Hope Special - NBC Television Network, The Readers’ Choice Awards Show, The Charisma 15th Anniversary Special, as well as shows for Eastern Airlines, American Motors, Busch Gardens, Hershey Park and Sea World. He has also produced award-winning Christmas specials for television: Let Heaven and Nature Sing, America’s Young Majority, Dino’s Piano Praise, and Larnelle Live.
Thurlow has been the Minister of Music at the Salem Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the First Church of the Nazarene in Detroit, Michigan, Calvary Assembly in Orlando, Florida and Metro Church in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Maddie Mae Spurr (Tap) is a junior in High School at The Classical School in Orlando, Florida. She has been dancing since the age of three at Art from the Heart Dance Studios, the dance studio that provides dancers for
Disney World and The Holy Land Experience in Orlando, Florida. She has trained in ballet, lyrical, hip-hop, musical theater jazz and tap. Along with teaching tap at Miss Kathey’s Academy in all three locations, she is also employed as a Tap Instructor at the Art from the Heart Studio. Maddie Mae enjoys photography and writing; her blog, ‘whoismaddie’ is at whoismaddie.com.
Pastor Stephen Norman (Drama) has a B.B.A. from Eastern Michigan University, and a Masters of Divinity Degree from Western Theological Seminary. He has been involved in locate theatre productions and most recently, performing in “I Promise”, a
film production for Pocket Parables. Steve served for five years as the Director of “Acts of Apostles”, a large high school drama team where he taught drama classes and clinics, directed plays, and took the teens on drama tours during the summer months. He also served for two years as Director of Drama at Canton Community Church. Having served as a pastor for 20 years, Steve is currently pastor of Crossroads Church in Livonia, Michigan. He continues to have a passion for drama and its importance in the process of communicating God’s word and is excited to be a part of the teaching staff of Miss Kathey’s Academy.
Nadine Norman (Wardrobe Mistress) has been involved with CMI for the past 10 years and currently coordinates costumes for Miss Kathey’s Academy in all three locations. In high school, she toured parts of the United States
with a 50-voice choir. During college, she sang and travelled throughout MI, OH, and Ontario, Canada with Sonlife, a YFC musical group and assisted with “Acts of Apostles”, a large high
school drama team. For 25 years, Nadine has directed praise & worship bands, has sung with praise teams and currently directs the Youth Worship Team at Crossroads Church in Livonia. She loves to express her love for God through worship and music, and serving others and enjoys the fact that being a part of Miss Kathey’s Academy allows her to combine those passions together in one place.
Butch O’Brien (Percussion) Butch O’Brien’s love of percussion began at the age of nine when his family joined the Salvation Army Church in Royal Oak, Michigan. His exposure to the music of the Salvation Army Church, particularly percussion,
brass, and performance, were a stepping stone to a lifelong appreciation of music. Butch met Thurlow Spurr in the early 70’s and was recruited as the percussionist for the July 1972 Freedom Celebration. He subsequently joined CMI as a Spurrlow percussionist for four years. Butch has coached a high school drumline for 15 years; teaches private percussion lessons and has performed with various artists including gospel singer Larnelle Harris, Pat Boone, Roy Clark, and a day of studio work with Bob Seger. Butch resides in Clawson, Michigan with his wife Betsy. They have two married children and their first grandchild arrived in the Spring.

Education. She has been teaching for ten years now, and is currently teaching second grade at Village Oaks Elementary in the Novi Community School District. She also serves as the VBS Director and Children’s Elementary Coordinator at her home church of Brighton Christian Church. She has been performing with the CMI Choir for the past eight years and she now finds her two passions, pouring Jesus into children and singing, coming together in this position.

Miss Kathey’s Academy produces a full-length Broadway-style musical and is one of the most
affordable quality musical performance schools in the country. In the morning, the students rotate with their group to a variety of theater classes including dance, drama, and voice taught by qualified and caring instructors. After lunch, they play exciting theater games, drill in dance and stage movement class and then come together with all the students for a showcase rehearsal.
All students perform in the musical theater show for family and friends featuring a variety of songs, dances and drama. Our shows are always appropriate for the entire family and are an excellent way to introduce children to the arts at a young age!
Miss Kathey’s Academy is a subsidiary of Concert Ministries a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization. Our programs rely on donations to help us “bridge the gap” between what we earn from ticket sales and class tuition and the operating costs of what it takes to deliver top-notch programming at an affordable rate!

In Act II we would like to honor a seasonal request of all of our friends who have asked that we include a medley of some of the wonderful and timeless traditional Christmas Carols.
Immediately following the choir singing THE FIRST NOEL I am inviting every person who has ever sung in a choir in Church, High School, College, University, or anywhere to stand and sing from
your program music O COME, ALL YE FAITHFUL. You will want to sing the parts as written with great enthusiasm and full voice.
This will be our response to Psalm 150, “Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord, PRAISE YE THE LORD!”
