• Make existing digital geological spatial data more easily discoverable, accessible and useable

• Support the European Geological Surveys to deliver INSPIRE compliant WEB services

• Make a significant contribution to the progress of INSPIRE – i.e. develop systems and protocols to better enable the discovery, viewing, downloading and sharing of core European spatial geological data

• Enable the Groundwater and Soils directives, GMES, GEOSS and SEIS to deliver

• Demonstrate best practice examples of the delivery and application of geological spatial data in the public and private sectors and share that best practice

Major objectives


Results and Deliverables

• interoperable geology spatial dataset at 1:1 million scale for all onshore EU

• scientific and informatics specification for the harmonisation of geological data at this resolution; progress towards a harmonised dataset

• view service providing access to best practice high resolution geological spatial data services for 6 Member States

• 2-4 pilot and case studies on cross-border delivery of harmonised high resolution data access

• multilingual discovery metadata for all participants’ geological and applied map data


• robust data model, schema and mark-up language for the geosciences

• web portal providing easy multilingual access to the above data and examples of user-focused web services

• best practice examples of the delivery of geological data to a range of users

• guidance and code of practice on licencing and clearing arrangements facilitating re-use of geological spatial data

• exchange of science, technology, informatics and communication skills and experience across the EU and globally.

INSPIRE technical requirements addressed by OneGE


DATA MODEL development

• Has to comply with INSPIRE Data Model “conceptual model”GeoSciML

+

• A first draft of the 1GE data model, based on GeoSciML, will be available in Summer 2009, according to user requirements (WP3)

• Help is provided about GeoSciML to some Geological Surveys for mapping with their national data model

• This model (with data exchange model) will be delivered as a draft of INSPIRE data specification for 1:1M geological datasets

• Testing of his extension to high resolution mapping will be done (in WP9)


ARCHITECTURE -SERVICES

1st OneGeology-Europe Awareness Seminar. Brussels, 31st March 2009

• Support Geological Surveys in providing interoperable web services for map and features delivery (for WP3 and WP9)according to “OneGeology Europe” standards (OGC + GeoSciML)

improve the global understanding and knowledgeThrough workshops, tutorials and tools

• Implement the services for 1GE Common Vocabularies (defined by WP3), tools will be improved in coordination with CGI-IWG

• The implementation of specific Web Functionalities “GIS like” thanks to Interoperability and GeoSciML will highlight the 1:1M European Harmonized Geological map


Portal developmentWorkshop on Geoportals held in January 2009 with 30 attendees from EEA, JRC, OGC, GEOSS, European and non European Geological Surveys.

Report on Best Practices on Geoportals achieved

First prototyped version of the Geoportal available
