What is Horror?
By Neelam Chhabhadiya
In order to make a horror film it is important that you consider the structure of the film which should consist of; the setting/location, characters, weapons/props and use of sound
Setting/location The setting and location is a very important aspect to consider when making a horror film.
You must consider that the location is a place which builds a very tense and uncomfortable atmosphere on it’s viewers.
A typical location in a horror film would be the woods or a house, which would both be set in the night to build the horror atmosphere.
Characters A typical horror film would include characters such as; the victim, villain/killer and the hero.
The victim usually tends to be a young vulnerable woman, followed by the villain who may be either a man, ghost, zombie or demon.
Villains are normally shown dressed in black clothing or a mask so that they can not be identified.
Props/weapons The props and weapons used
depends on the sort of horror movie that is made.
A movie that consists of zombies may consist of weapons such as an axe.
If it's a modern horror movie, consisting of a human being as a victim, weapons such as a knife would be used.
The use of props and weapons used may also identify the situation of the characters.
