adapt – become adjusted to new conditions (New Oxford
American Dictionary)
New conditions in New England agriculture
Intensification of pathogens & pests, due to vector expansion, evolution & nutrient depletion
Regulatory constraints resulting in on-farm compliance demands & scarcity of certified processors
Climate volatility characterized by extreme weather & farm system failures, e.g. power outages & dry wells
Revival of local grain & seed production slowed by absence of affordable, user-friendly processing equipment
Broadly rising input prices tied to supply-chain consolidation, transportation costs, etc.
