1169 StandardRecommended Practice for Basic Inspection Requirements — New Pipeline Construction

An API standard that covers the basic requirements and associated references needed to perform inspection activities safely and effectively during construction of new onshore pipelines.

STANDARD VS CERTIFICATION

1169 CertificationPipeline Construction Inspector Certification

An API certification that provides the industry with a standardized process for certifying individuals who perform pipeline construction inspection activities. The certification uses both experience verification and testing, to identify inspectors who can perform according to industry standards and best practices.

GROWTH IN API 1169 CERTIFICATION

Fastest Growing API Certification

2,875 Candidates in 2017(more than any other certification)

“We see a slump in basic certifications (510, 570, 653), while we see tremendous growth for the 1169 program (over 400% from 2015)”.

(b) For the purpose of this subpart, a covered task is an activity, identified by the operator that:(1) Is performed on a pipeline facility(2) Is an operations or maintenance task including those conducted during an emergency

response or is a construction task or an integrity management task;(3) Is performed as a requirement of this part; and(4) Affect the operation or integrity of the pipeline.

...This broader rule, proposed June 1st, 2016, may require task list revisions which include new construction tasks. Final action on the proposal has been delayed.
