DEFINITION OF AIMS FOR FOUNDATION KEBON DEFINITION OF AIMS FOR FOUNDATION KEBON SEPATUSEPATU

In the past, reports have been written expressing deep concern relating to the major problem that lies at the foundation of Third World countries. These reports focus on what one could describe, in essence, as the great common binder, and/or divider, depending on what vision one wants to share. The main issue is the fact that women, struggling for means of existence, without or with very little formal education, can only support themselves by means of prostitution or are forced to hire themselves out in menial domestic positions, often suffering the same kind of abuse. In most cases this has the consequence that they must leave their home environment, children and relatives or, even worse, need to consider adoption as a feasible alternative. The nurturing tasks linked to motherhood are often delegated and thus the natural bonding process, which develops freely in the daily interaction between mother and child, will be irreparably damaged.

Both the mother and child would benefit through the creation of local employment projects for the mothers, enabling them to register their children via a scheme of the Foundation to provide financial support to allow their children to attend primary school. Policy and criteria will be developed, and, through co-operation with the parent(s) and support from the Foundation, will guarantee at least the basis for a better future. For older children, i.e. adolescents, another line of action will need to be established by means of professional training, internships and exchange programs.

DEFINITION OF AIMS FOR FOUNDATION KEBON DEFINITION OF AIMS FOR FOUNDATION KEBON SEPATUSEPATU

The aim of Foundation Kebon Sepatu is to assist those who, through no fault of their own, but mainly through lack of choice and circumstances – have to deal with great disadvantages in educational, social, cultural, academic and economic aspects of life. The main vision of the Foundation for its target group is to shortcut all time-consuming barriers by pragmatic means. The advantages obtained through education and the creation of a stable environment will be reinvested, by means of practical knowledge and work experience, in the local population. The Foundation avoids creating a sense of dependency by ensuring - through the stimulation of self-supporting projects – self-identity and training. Investigations will be made into the feasibility of setting up non-governmental co-operative units for the growing of local agricultural products.

Foundation Kebon Sepatu does not strive to pass judgement or voice opinions regarding political or religious affiliations. Its priorities lie in safeguarding the interests of the most vulnerable in society. No preference is given to either sex; the educational opportunities will be wide and varied in order to develop all talents and abilities which lie dormant within the target group itself.

Foundation Kebon Sepatu regards the involvement of not only the local population, but also the surrounding network of local authorities, as one of its fundamental tasks. In addition, Foundation Kebon Sepatu will attempt to gain the support and co-operation of other international organisations in either sponsoring separate projects or ensuring donations. In order to realise these aims, Foundation Kebon Sepatu will not link itself to organisations, associations or individuals who in conduct or ideology principally differ from the vision of the Foundation.

– On 6th January 2007, the Establishment Meeting of the daughter Foundation SKS, was scheduled in Bogor. All parties concerned were represented during the preliminary talks, clarifying the aims and trying to determine who was going to do what and what a reasonable time path would be to have the first results from the Kembang Sepatu project.

– Clarity and transparency in achieving the results were the main focus of this meeting. The importance of having no conflict of interests was mentioned and as the SKS (Stichting Kebon Sepatu) and the YKS (Yayasan Kebon Sepatu) are in principle equal partners, it was understood that the activities of the Stichting would focus mainly on policy, financial regulations, fundraising and promotional activities, the Yayasan would be dealing with the executive tasks in safeguarding that the projects fall within the criteria as set out in the policies, financial regulations as well as accountability for such and monitoring progress.

– There will be a close working relationship between the two Foundations, with the outspoken intention to meet twice yearly. The SKS had appointed an Executive Officer with full judicial authority, but with no position on the Board of Directors in the Netherlands. It stands to reason that during the Establishment Meeting it was decided that for the application for the YSK, the appointed Executive Officer should countersign the deeds and should also act as founder of the daughter foundation in Indonesia. The Indonesian counterpart is Mr. Irawansjah Z. Tasrif, who acts on behalf of the YSK as legal advisor. President of the Yayasan Kebon Sepatu is Mrs. Karin Sjarief, who will be asked to play an advisory role with regards to new projects and to monitor progress of the current projects in Indonesia. Secretary of the YKS is Mrs. Josephine Vogelpoel, who will be in close contact with the Treasurer,  who will act on behalf of the SKS as Executive Officer and Founder of the YKS. The team of experts is headed by the legal advisor of the YKS and represents all segments of areas in which the Foundation expects to launch projects, now or in the near future.
