a.Fossil fuel energy sources include coal, petroleum and natural gas

a.Petroleum, natural gas and coal are formed by the remains of animals and plants that were burried under mud and sand millions of years ago.

b.Fossil fuels provide heat energy. Heat energy is also used to generate electricity.

Biomass, a renewable energy source, is biological material from living, or recently living organisms,[1] such as wood, waste, (hydrogen) gas, and alcohol fuels. Biomass is commonly plant matter grown to generate electricity or produce heat.

Wind is a source of energy.

Today, wind energy is mainly used to generate electricity. Wind is a renewable energy source because the wind will blow as long as the sun shines. A sailboat uses wind energy. A windmill uses wind energy.Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy

The heat from the sun heats up water. The water evaporates and forms water vapour. This water vapour later falls as rain. Rainwater collected in dams can be used to generate hydroelectricity.

The source of radioactive energy:

Nuclear energy derived from nuclear reactions of radioactive substances Examples of radioactive substance are uranium and plutonium. The heat energy produced by these reactions can be used to run steam engines to produce electricity.

Geothermal energy is energy derived from the heat obtained deep in the core of the earth.

Geothermal energy produced steam that rotate the turbine of a dynamo to generate electrical energy.

Renewable energy is energy which comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat, which are renewable (naturally replenished).

Page 12: Presentation Science Form 1

A non-renewable resource is a natural resource which cannot be produced, grown, generated, or used on a scale which can sustain its consumption rate.
