WHAT IS DENGUE FEVER ?

Dengue fever is a viral disease spread by mosquitoes named Aedes aegypti.Symptoms include high temperature and feeling generally unwell.Serious complications include dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome. There is no specific medical treatment and no vaccine. The best way to protect against dengue

fever is to avoid mosquito bites when in

affected areas.

THE DENGUE FEVER A GLOBAL PROBLEM

During epidemics of dengue fever, infection rates among those who have not been previously exposed to the virus are often

40% to 50 % , but can reach 80 % to 90%.

An estimated 500,000 people with DHF require hospitalization each year , 2.5 % of those affected die .

Without prober treatment , DHF fatality rates can exceed 20%.

Dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome were first noted in Central and South America in 1981 .Outbreaks have occurred recently in the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Cuba, and Central America .Cases have also been imported via tourists returning from areas with widespread dengue, including Brazil , Tahiti, Singapore, the South Pacific, Southeast Asia, India, and the Middle East .

VACCINE DEVELOPMENT:

No vaccine is currently approved for the prevention of dengue infection .

Immunogenic, safe tetravalent vaccines have been developed and are undergoing clinical trials.

Candidate vaccines include a live-attenuated virus, recombinant envelope proteins, and an inactivated virus. The estimates of the time needed for further testing of candidate vaccines range from 5-10 years .

THE AIM OF THIS STUDY :

To educate the public about the transmission of dengue fever diseases (Mosquitoes) and prevalence , knowing all the aspects of the disease will increase the population awareness to decreases the incidence of dengue fever and Also by showing the geographical spread of the disease all over the world and understand the disease centralization.

METHODOLOGY

Questionnaire based research used to assess the public knowledge and measure the awareness about dengue disease .The research quantitative survey have been speared between the public from Feb. 12 to may 14 2015 and it have been answered from 51 participants who helped in having an accurate results .

Page 10: Presentation roaa

RESULTS

The study of dengue fever awareness accomplished successfully , the study had 51 participant’s who have answered quit fine about dengue fever and showed a good degree of knowledge , but there was a lack of information’s about the current treatment of dengue fever , The incubation period of the virus and time needed to appearance of the primary symptoms .

CONCLUSION :

The disease have no direct vaccine or treatment ,public should be aware about the prevention and current treatment’s .We can increase the information’s to be given in the educational programs to decrease the infection incidence by knowing all the aspects of dengue fever .

Page 16: Presentation roaa

RECOMMENDATIONS :

Implant a local organization of infection diseases .Make events to the public to educate them about the right ways to prevent and treatment of dengue fever .Increase the interest of the public to learn about the transmitted diseases.Alert young children's in schools by educational programs from getting bit by mosquitos and how dangers is the disease .
