Presentation of POLE AVENIA
1
POLE AVENIA is...
a non-profit making association under the French 1901 law,
labeled a “competitiveness cluster” in 2010 in the
ecotechnologies category.
Like all competitiveness clusters, POLE AVENIA federates within a
clearly-identified region and on a target theme:
•Companies.
•Research laboratories.
•Technological platforms.
•Training agencies.
•Federative structures.

Subsurface sectors
In 2015, a study covering the perimeter, entitled
“deep subsurface valorization sectors” was run by a partners’ consortium (DGE, DGEC, POLE AVENIA,
EVOLEN, AFPG).
The results contributed to:
•Assessing the importance of sectors on a national
level.
•Put their influence into perspective.
•Put forward recommendations to:
- Win export markets together.
- Reassert French expertise.
- Build a responsible and sustainable operating
model for the deep subsurface.-Promote the strengths of the different sectors
to secure employment in France.
The study concerns the cluster’s historical perimeter.

GEFISS Gouvernance Elargie pour les Filières d’Ingénierie du Sous-Sol
•State of play concerning best practices for managing the acceptability or non-acceptability of subsurface
operating projects.
•Research project: design, experiment and deploy the implementation of an original method combining
operational activities and observations.
Valorization of trace metals found in subsurface waters:
•Nine metals of interest can be found in oilfield and geothermal waters.
•Six possible technologies to extract these metals.
•Reservoir by reservoir analyses to be conducted by technology owners
Analysis of ways to valorize waste heat produced by the activities of subsurface industries
•37 reservoirs identified in France.
•12 identified valorization solutions.
•Looking for partners who could use this waste heat as a resource.
•3 projects finalized.
Deep subsurface energy valorization sectors:
•Diagnosis: economic health, position, structuring, human requirements.
•International benchmark.
•Identification of potential technology transfers.
•Prospective outlook and recommendations.
GPEC drilling: forward-planning management study for jobs and skills in drilling: current offer, current and future
needs, recommendations to structure the offer.
