    F oundation- What is it? Mainly aimed at primary school children orcomplete beginners.

    They provide basic skills such as catchingand throwing. They emphasise on making the sessions fun

    so the youngsters can enjoy participating.

    An example of this would be Braziliansoccer school.

    Participation- what is it?Participation stage consists of anyone whoparticipates in sport regularly.

    reasons for participation in sport could besocialising, health or fitness or enjoyment.

    They participate also to develop their skills in anactivity, they do this by participating in clubteams etc.

    categorised by someone participating in a sport bychoice and extend their intrest.

    Performance-What is

    it? The Performance level consists of anyone involved

    in sport who aims to improve their skills.

    This could be playing for a sports team where youreceive coaching. At performance level a participant will show

    commitment to training.

    Will want to perfect their skills. Will be playing at a club or regional standard.

    Ex cellence - what is it? This is top of the pyramid. Consists of skilled performers. aim to achieve set standards that are measurableusually through competition. Activities at Excellence level usually have rewards

    that motivate the individual. This is where elite performers are and national

    recognition is achieved.

    5 X 60 This is on organisation set up by sports councilWales.

    It aims to get new people involved into sport. It tries to get people to participate in 60 minutes

    of exercise 5 times a week. This will be right at the bottom of a sports

    continuum, as it is introducing the sport to peopleit may even be for the first time.

    WRU The WRU invest lots of money into clubs/regions. They have clubs starting from a very young age to help

    progress the sport in individuals.

    They may also feed off such organisations such as5

    x60. The WRU will cover most of the stages throughout thesport continuum as in invests money into clubs to helpparticipation. They then have set up regions and academies,which selected players will be chosen for. Then, if theplayers are identified good enough they will either be sent

    to a Welsh premier team to gain experience or will becontracted to that certain team. Then further honoursfollow. A prime example of this is Leigh Halfpenny.
