At 1,102,4 MW (31/12/2011), Spain has the highest level of
installed CSP capacity in the world next to the United
States;
Spain has 1,500 MW of CSP capacity in the pipeline to be installed
by 2015;
According to Sun & Wind Energy, “Spain is the nucleus of the
current CSP boom”.
As opposed to other forms of renewable power generation, feed-in
tariffs for CSP are secure;
Spain is the ideal location for international investors needing a
presence in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for the
rapid growth of the CSP business already taking place in this
region (e.g. Desertec initiative).

Andalusia offers a range of opportunities for research and
development collaboration.
1. ALMERÍA SOLAR PLATFORM
It is the largest centre for research, development, and testing of
concentrating solar technologies in Europe with a staff of
approximately 100 people and a budget of €8 million.
It belongs to the Centre for Energy, Environmental, and
Technological Research (CIEMAT), which is part of the Spanish
Ministry for Science and Innovation.
The DLR (German Aerospace Centre) has an established cooperation
here with on-site scientific staff to conduct its own solar
technology testing and development projects.
2. ADVANCED TECHNOLOGICAL CENTRE FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY (CTAER)
CTAER was established by the Andalusian government in order to
contribute, in collaboration with industrial partners, to the
development of the renewable energy technologies.
3. ANDALUSIAN INSTITUTE OF RENEWABLE ENERGIES (IAER)
IAER is devoted to achieving the Andalusian government’s research
and development goals, as outlined in the Andalusian Research Plan.
It unites all of the research groups involved in renewable energies
at Andalusia’s ten universities.
