ENJOYNEERING WITH MEMOQ
WHO?
Pol Bernat is the chief of the Language Engineering
department at Nova Language Solutions. The LE
department deals with all issues related with CAT Tools
and also investigates and implements their most
advanced options.
Nova was established in 1998, with the company's

Now, NOVA, a weLocalize company.

ENJOYNEERING WITH MEMOQ
TABLE OF CONTENTS
General characteristics:
• Huge project: about 1,000,000 words, but +/-99%
already translated
• Short deadlines (more or less 1 and a half weeks)
• Translation and revision at the same time
• Low budget client only pays for new words
• Trados 2007 environment
• The original files are XML which are used
afterwards to create PDFs (there are a lot of tags
that need to be correctly processed).

Workflow:
1. Pretranslate the TTX with the TMW.
2. Extract the non-100% and Perfect Match (PM)
segments and send them to translate.
3. Revise the 100% and PM.
4. Import the translated segments to the TMW and
pretranslate the revised files.
TRADOS 2007 IS ALIVE
WORKING WITH TRADOS 2007
Problems:
• No context for translators.
• Lots of errors with the created files (translators
used newer CAT Tools and there were lots of
conversions).
• Too much time was spent correcting errors and
preparing files.
TRADOS 2007 IS ALIVE
WORKING WITH TRADOS 2007
First try in 2012 of working with memoQ 6.0
ISSUES
1. The word counts where not the same that the client had
when analyzing with Trados 2007 different segmentation
2. There were lots of issues with tags (some of them where not
in the same order as in the TTX and the translated XML
afterwards was corrupt).
3. The time to create the projects was even longer than
working only with Trados 2007 because of the corrections
that were needed.

LET’S TRY MEMOQ 6.0

TRADOS 2007 IS ALIVE
LET’S TRY MEMOQ 6.0
Why SDL Studio?
• Company that owns Trados
• Best TTX and TMW processing?
• Trials with Studio 2009, 2011 and 2014
New Workflow:
SDL STUDIO IN ACTION
TIME IS MONEYPretranslate TTX
with TMW
New SDL Project > TTX(as SDLIFF) + TMW (as TMX)
Lock 100% & Perfect Match
SDL Studio Package fortranslators
SDLXLIFF fromthe project for
reviewers
Import returnpackage from
translator
New TM withthe reviewer’s
SDLXLIFF
Pretranslate thefile with that TM
Export TTX and clean up TMW
Time in a standard (+/- 30 manuals) project:
• Preproduction: 8 hours (about 15 minutes per manual)
• Postproduction: 5 hours (about 10 minutes per manual)
Why?
• Project creation in SDL Studio is slow
• Filtering options are not powerful (not possible to
combine filters; slow filtering)
• There are not views = it is needed to pretranslate the
whole file with the revision
• Errors with the exported TTX!
SDL STUDIO IN ACTION
TIME IS MONEY
With memoQ 2015 = better processing of TTX files (no
tag problems; segmentation under control)
First try scripts to automatically export a TMX from the
TMW and create a new project with the TTX and that
exported TMX >> PROBLEMS:
• Script should run before memoQ
• No budget to create the scripts
Second try template that creates a multilingual
project with an empty TM for each language, specific
segmentation rules, QA settings, etc.

View for translator(segments not
locked)
View for reviewers(locked segments)
Update the projectwith the translatedand reviews views
Export TTX and clean up TMW
Time in a standard (+/- 30 manuals) project:
• Preproduction: 2,5 hours
(about 5 minutes per manual)
• Postproduction: 2,5 hours
(about 5 minutes per manual)
From 13 hours to 5 hours… Why?
• Project creation in memoQ is faster thanks to
templates
• Very powerful filters and views easier management
of translation and review at the same time
• The exported TTX has no errors
