After your child guesses the object correctly, try and think of as many words as possible that rhyme with it! The “Totowa Public Library Children’s Program” on Facebook provides a story time every day at 11:00am followed by an activity at 12:00pm. Day 16 Reading & Writing: Doggie Detective Materials: • 3 to 6 toy puppies – cut out your own from construction paper or use stuffed animals. • Construction paper • Marker • Scissors Directions: Cut out 5 to 10 to “dog bones” from construction paper. Write one lowercase letter on each bone: s, r, c, t, b, etc. Then, hide the toy puppies on, in, under, or near things in the home that start with the above letters. For example: s = sink, sofa, stairs; r=refrigerator, rug; c=couch, chair, computer; t=table, TV, toaster; b=bed, bathtub, etc. Lay all of the dog bone cards face down on the table. Have your child flip over one bone at a time and identify the letter. Tell your child to go find a puppy on, in, under, or near something that starts with that letter. Let them ask you for clues, such as “Is it in the kitchen?” or “Is it something I can sit on?” Give the bone to the found puppy! Switch and let your child hide the puppies — and lead you to them using clues. Letter Hopscotch- If weather permits Materials: Sidewalk chalk Choose a large area on a sidewalk or driveway to create the hopscotch grid. Create a nine by nine grid of squares. Write a letter in each square with chalk. As your child hops from square to square, ask them to say the corresponding letter and make its sound. For example: “M. M says mmmmm.” For older kids, you can add extra squares. See if they spell short words while they hop, such as C-A-T or P-A-T Math: Watch “Our Favorite Numbers” https://youtu.be/V_lgJgBbqWE Review numbers and counting together. Use materials found around your house and practice counting together. Develop their understanding of number sense by handling objects and counting them. You can use anything such as candy, beans, nuts, etc. Science: No science today! Social Studies: Watch this video https://youtu.be/ckKQclquAXU Next, draw a picture of someone you know that is a community helper. If you don’t know anyone, draw a picture of your teacher!
