The Session

“As there were in Old Testament times elders for the government of the people, so the New Testament Church provided persons with particular gifts to share in governing and ministry. Elders are chosen by the people. Together with ministers, they exercise leadership, and have responsibilities for the ministry and mission of a particular church”. –The Book of Order.

The ministry of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, wit-ness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ. The mission of the deacons is to: Love and nurture others as God loves and cares for us. Care for others who may not have the ability to care for themselves. Serve God and God's people with our time, talents, and treasure. Each deacon is assigned a parish under his or her care. A parish is approxi-mately ten households.
