In the publication’s rating of regional hospitals, all three hospitals were among the top 10 in Philadelphia – HUP topped the list at #1, while Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and Pennsylvania Hospital ranked 4th and 6th, respectively. In the state of Pennsylvania, HUP was ranked second, with Penn Presbyterian and Pennsylvania Hospital ranked 8th and 9th, respectively. Penn Presbyterian was also among 147 facilities (including HUP and Pennsylvania Hospital) to be ranked in even one of the 16 specialties. Presby earned national recognition for 2 specialties (Geriatrics and Ear, Nose & roat), and was deemed High-Performing in 8 specialties (Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Pulmonology, and Urology). Presby earned national recognition for 2 specialties… and was deemed High-Performing in 8 specialties. A Serving of Culture Earlier this month, the Cultural Diversity Committee hosted an International Food Tasting potluck, inviting PPMC faculty and staff to come together and share their favorite cultural fare with colleagues. Attendees enjoyed a smorgasbord of ethnic foods from a variety of cultures, including: chicken and rice (a traditional meal from the Dominican Republic), Filipino cassava cake, deviled eggs, traditional Boston baked beans, Eastern European pierogi, the internationally-popular bread pudding, and more!

2012 Bach Fund Grant Recipients

Each year, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center is fortunate to bestow upon select faculty members grants from the Bach Fund, a trust created through the Estate of Jeanette Bach Tashjian. Grants, available for use by members of PPMC staff, are allocated to support as many worthwhile projects as possible, up to $40,000 annually. In 2012, the Bach Fund awarded five grants. Earlier this month four of the five awardees presented posters on projects that were supported by those grants. Congratulations to all of the recipients!
