Located in Downtown Abu Dhabi, this 20 storey office building has two of its sides enclosed in a glass façade which at the top tilts towards the city. This subtle movement gives the building an unconventional appearance.

As the name would suggest, design for this project drew inspiration from the shape of a prism. The structure’s backbone is made up of granite façade through which light shoots out to give it a very rich and contemporary feel. Through the use of dynamic triangular shapes the building denotes a sense of continuous elevation towards the sky.

Muhannad Sh. Assam

Muhannad Sh. Assam believes that one never stops being a student, Inspiration is everywhere and one must keep learning and exploring. This zest for his industry, and life in general, has granted him several successes and ensured him a fulfilling life.

Born as the youngest amongst 8 siblings, into a merchantÍs family in Iraq, Muhannad had a lot of aspirations to make a difference in the way people live. Constant support and encouragement from his family ensured that he fulfilled his goals. From high school onwards, Muhannad had an innate talent for understanding spaces. Always setting the benchmark for his fellow students, he constantly surprised his renowned professors with his passion, talent and dedication.

In 1971, he enrolled in the School of Architecture in Baghdad. He still owes his successes to his professors, like Mohammed Makia, who honed his talent and added fuel to his passion. He trained during his university period at the office of Rafa’t Chaderchi, a distinguished architect with an Agha Khan Award to boast among several others.

In 1977 Muhannad graduated with distinction and right after pursued his postgraduate studies in Design of Specialised Buildings.

In 1980, Muhannad moved to UAE and since then has contributed immensely to the quality and style of life in the Middle East region. He has designed, provided guidance and overseen many projects, that have changed the perception of architecture and the way we live. His contemporary designs have also won him several design competitions. He believes that both form and function complement each other in a progressive instead of a conservative way and his creations are living proof of that.Ha has worked in several offices in the UAE, with his longest duration in Dewan Architects and Engineers (18 years) as Design Director and later as Regional Director and Director of Design. His job profile included overseeing and designing innumerous projects for prestigious and V.V.I.P clients. He was involved in the entire design process from conceptualization to execution.For Muhannad, the most rewarding thing about his career has been watching his buildings over the years and how people react to his created environments. He experiences immense satisfaction when his creation has made an inspirational environment for someone else.

Never ceasing to grow, Muhannad decided it was time to venture out of Dewan and start his own business, thus BEAD. BEAD stands for Bureau of Excellence in Architecture and Design and that is the primary vision of BEAD. He wishes to transform the Architecture Industry in UAE through BEAD. He expects of his team unwavering dedication and immense passion. He leads by example and is constantly inspiring his team to delve into extensive research, create innovative solutions, introduce new materials and have a professional outlook towards the industry as opposed to a commercial one.He hopes that BEAD would eventually link up with Universities that function as research centres, so that BEAD is constantly challenging the norms of Architecture and pushing the boundaries of design.

MuhannadÍs wife, two sons and daughter support helps contribute to his ceaseless passion for his profession. Muhannad and his wife fell in love at university while studying architecture. Therefore, architecture continues to be a common thread, a common passion between them. His wife, Yasmin, constantly encourages him to push the envelope and deliver the best.Muhannad Sh. Assam is a man of great vision and his dream for BEAD, growth in the architecture industry and personal satisfaction is being realized every day.
