MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER

I aim to create a pipeline of women in business, politics, STEM, the arts, and

other fields where women and minorities are underrepresented. Since

2010, over 1,000 girls throughout the DC metro area have attended our

programs and been inspired by the role models who have volunteered to

mentor girls at various programs, such as STEAM camps, career

conferences, networking luncheons, work site field trips, and leadership

workshops. These programs have exposed girls to possible career

opportunities and provided them with the tools to follow a pathway to

accomplishing their goals. I thank the GIRL Board members, individual

donors, sponsors, and partners who have helped me fulfill my passion, and

I look forward to everyone's continued support.

"The whole community created by the GIRL program makes me feel that I’m

substantially prepared to pursue STEM-related professions in the future with

the skills I’ve gained and resources available to me. I truly believe that these

are all experiences that I may not have had in my everyday life without being

part of an organization such as GIRL."

A GIRL Participant

Today, many girls face challenges of peer pressure,

low self-esteem, and lack of vision for the future. It is

my passion that girls know their dreams are possible

by exposing them to women of all ages who are

impacting their workplaces, communities, and the

nation.

Danielle decided to start a nonprofit to address the concerns that the girls shared during GIRL Talk meetings. GIRL was incorporated in April 2010 and on June 5, 2010 hosted its first workshop titled, “Fit and Fabulous,” which emphasized physical fitness and self-esteem. In December 2010, GIRL became a 501(c)(3) organization.

hosted monthly workshops on STEM, academic success strategies, preparation for college and careers, leadership development, healthy relationships, health and fitness, positive self-esteem, entrepreneurship, and social etiquette.

performed community service projects of collecting and donating holiday food baskets to the Alternative House: The Abused and Homeless Children’s Refuge (Second Story), collecting school supplies for back-to-school projects, making Christmas cards for residents of a local nursing home, and preparing care packages for children at Children's National Hospital and MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital.

created, with a Breaking the Cycle Endowment Grant from the Giving Circle of Hope, the Pathways to Careers program which mentored a group of high school girls in 2017. was rough, unchartered, twisted and winding is now a paved, red

brick street with lanterns glowing along the side. Such clear vision has

resulted from attending the countless events hosted by GIRL. ”

“I appreciate what you are doing. This is such a wonderful opportunity
