Preparing for What is Coming Part 4by Jim Marcum March 6, 2011

SPECIAL NOTE: This fourth teaching in the series in some ways is the most difficult. There were several

who heard these teachings when they were first taught, and I remember at least one person saying, I

liked all the teachings except the one about natural disasters earthquakes and stuffyikes! It is not

fun to think & talk about these things, but it is a part of Preparing for What is Coming. Remember,

Jesus told us beforehand, so that we can prepare! May the presence of the Lord be with you as you

    study this teaching.

INTRODUCTION: Remember this important truth we have been emphasizing in this series of teachings:

In the same way that Scripture tells us for certain that no one will know the day or hour of Christs

return, Scripture also tells us for certain that the generation of Christs return will understand they are

that generation, and will therefore be able to prepare for the things that will take place. What we

believe from seeing the biblical signs is this: WE ARE THE GENERATION OF THE LORDS COMING! At this

point in the series, we are looking at the 15 things Jesus says we need to be preparing for, which are

recorded in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21. We have covered the first four in the last teaching (Part3), and in this teaching will cover the next four signs of the Lords return.

    1. DIFFERENT SEASONS CALL FOR DIFFERENT ACTIONS.Luke 22:35-36

    (35) And he said to them, "When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did

you lack anything?" They said, "Nothing."

    (36) He said to them, "But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack.

And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.

    A. Jesus speaks this to the apostles just before His arrest and crucifixion. He reminds them of anearlier time He had sent them out and told them NOT to make any physical preparations for

themselves. But, He says, This is a different time than that, and I want you to make some

    preparations.

    B. There are times when the word of the Lord for the past season no longer applies to the seasonyoure in. Rather, there is something new the Lord is saying for the present season. Now that

could apply in many ways in our lives, but it definitely applies to what were talking about in this

series of teachings, which is preparing for what is coming in the end times season.

    C. It is very important to know what the Lord is speaking to us right now in this end times season. There are times when the Lord will sayDont make preparations, just go. But there are

unique times as well that the Lord will say, Okay, for this you need to make some preparations.D. We are in a season now like the one Jesus speaks of in Luke 22:36, which talks about making

preparations. We may feel that Jesus has never told us these things before. He has never told us

to prepare before. But that is because it was not the season to hear it or do it before. But now

He is saying to do some specific things to prepare ourselves. Why? Because NOW IS THE

    SEASON for it!

    E. The specific things Jesus told his disciples to do here in Luke 22:36 are NOT necessarily the thingswere supposed to be doing. We need to listen to Holy Spirits guidance, and do the specific

things He tells us to do right now to prepare in the specific ways He tells us to prepare

ourselves. Just like Jesus told his disciplesjust before He was crucified, Here are some specific

  • 7/28/2019 Preparing for What is Coming - Part 4 - Handout

    2/12

    2

things to obtain in preparation for what is coming, I believe He is going to tell us specific things

to obtain, have on hand as it were, and specific preparations to make.

    F. We need to continue to watch and pray and listen for ongoing instructions from the Spirit ofthe Lord. As the seasons change rapidly even within these end times, the things the Lord would

have us do may change and we need to be walking closely with the Him.

    G. It will be important not to shrink back when the Spirit is emboldening us, but it is also importantnot to push forward when the Spirit is restraining us.

    1) EXAMPLE: My father loves to ride horses. He told me that early on as a newer horseman, heone time urged his horse ahead into some ground that the horse had stopped in front of. He

thought the horse was being stubborn. But as soon as the horse went forward, the ground

gave way into deep mud clear up to the saddle! My dad rolled off and got to firmer ground,

but the horse was desperately struggling. After a long period of time, my dad was able to get

the horse out of the mud, but he said he was truly afraid he might not be able to get his horse

out of that mud! He said from then on he has learned to be careful and respect the instinct

of a horse who is shying from going into an area of ground or water.

    2) We must follow the Holy Spirit in a similar way respecting his perfect knowledge of whatlies ahead. Listening closely to his ruling voice inside of our inner man, and trusting that.

Some of what were talking about in this series we may want to ignore it and just forge

ahead. But we cant do that. If we do, we may sink into something in the days ahead that we

wont be able to get out of.

    3) The season we are entering is NOT the same thing that has been going on for 2,000 years. This is not business as usual. We are about to enter the most difficult time the planet has

ever seen a time that if it were not cut short, no human being would survive! We cant just

trot into it unaware and unprepared. That would not be the way to approach this season!

Thank the Lord He is preparing us for what is coming. He is preparing us to get around some

things and avoid some things that would have taken us under. And He is preparing us to go

through some things that we would not make it through otherwise. He loves us! He wants to

tell us what is coming and how to prepare ourselves for it.

    2. REVIEW: THE FIRST FOUR SIGNS OF JESUS COMINGA. We are looking intently into the Olivet Discourse found in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21

(also some of the discourse is in Luke 17). Here we have the longest and most specific teaching

Jesus gave about the signs of His second coming. The first four signs we covered in the last

teaching, and they are found in Matthew 24:3-8. The first four signs are:

    1) Rampant deception.2) Wars.3) Rumors of war (tumults, commotions, disorder, instability).4) Uprisings nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom.

    B. Remember that these four things, and the things we will continue to talk about today are likenedby Jesus to the beginning ofbirth pains. What do we know about birth pains?

    1) What do we know about birth pains?a. They are pains that is they hurt, they are painful.b. They indicate a limited amount of time before a birth takes place.

    2) Birth pains are the sign of the beginning of the end of a pregnancy. They happen just beforethe end, and are the definite sign that the end is close at hand.

  • 7/28/2019 Preparing for What is Coming - Part 4 - Handout

    3/12

    3

    3) The pains begin somewhat slowly and with less intensity, but as they progress, the painsincrease in frequency and intensity. So when Jesus speaks of these things as birth pains, it

means that the things He talks about and describes here, will INCREASE in frequency or scale,

and will be happening coincident to each other within the period of time just before He

    returns.

    3. MORE SIGNS OF HIS COMING WHAT TO PREPARE FOR.Matthew 24:7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will

    be famines andearthquakesin various places.

    A. Sign # 5Famines.1) A famine is a widespread shortage of food which results in those affected [humans &

animals] suffering hunger, malnutrition, disease, starvation, and often death.

    2) What causes famines?a. Famines can be caused by drought or blight.b. Famines can be caused by natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes or volcanic

    eruptions.

    c. Famines can be forced to occur as a result of warfare and oppression from occupyingforces.

    d. Famines can be greatly worsened by economic disruption, human greed, and negligenceand mismanagement of resources. In some cases famines could have been averted or

greatly lessened if governing bodies would have responded and managed resources well.

    3) Scriptural examples of famines, and how to prepare for them:a. An Old Testament example Genesis 41

    Genesis 41:30-41

    (30) there will arise seven years of famine, and all the plenty will be forgotten in

the land of Egypt. The famine will consume the land,

    (31) and the plenty will be unknown in the land by reason of the famine that will

follow, for it will be very severe.

    (32) And the doubling of Pharaoh's dream means that the thing is fixed by God, and

God will shortly bring it about.

    (33) Now therefore let Pharaoh select a discerning and wise man, and set him over

    the land of Egypt.

    (34) Let Pharaoh proceed to appoint overseers over the land and take one-fifth of the

produce of the land of Egypt during the seven plentiful years.

    (35) And let them gather all the food of these good years that are coming and store

up grain under the authority of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it.(36) That food shall be a reserve for the land against the seven years of famine that

are to occur in the land of Egypt, so that the land may not perish through the famine."

    (37) This proposal pleased Pharaoh and all his servants.

    (38) And Pharaoh said to his servants, "Can we find a man like this, in whom is the

    Spirit of God?"

    (39) Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Since God has shown you all this, there is none so

discerning and wise as you are.

    (40) You shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you

command. Only as regards the throne will I be greater than you."

    4/12

    4

    (41) And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt."

    b. A New Testament example Acts 11.Acts 11:27-30

    (27) Now in these days prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

    (28) And one of them named Agabus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there

would be a great famine over all the world (this took place in the days of Claudius).

    (29) So the disciples determined, everyone according to his ability, to send relief to

    the brothers living in Judea.

    (30) And they did so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.

    c. What do these Scriptural examples show us about preparing for famines?1) There will be believers & followers of the Lord Jesus in this end times generation, who

will have the wisdom and prophetic foresight like Joseph did to lead the way in

preparing for the famines that are coming.

    2) As believers, we will not be hording food in times of famine, but rather with love inour hearts, we will lead the way in giving and sharing freely in times of coming famine.

    4) Many areas of the globe are dealing with famine today. Conservative estimates report thatsevere undernourishment affects nearly 1 billion people alive on earth today, or about 14% of

the worlds population. The degradation of agricultural land and the deficit of the water

table in many regions of the world make food production very difficult. Headlines in our own

nation tell us that food prices here in America are likely to be skyrocketing in the very near

    future.

    5) The Lord Jesus is letting us know we will be experiencing famines in this end timesgeneration. He says, There will be famines We can expect it, just like we can expect

wars, tumults, and uprising. There will be famines coming. They will come as birth pains do

they will be increasing in size and scope. The lack of available food is likely to be widespread,

and may come a result of what is happening politically as well as environmentally on the

    planet.

    6) How to prepare for famines:a. Be delivered from food addictions. [better to deal now with breaking this than during the

    severity of the days ahead].

    b. Be content with and thankful for simple food, and less food.c. Consider a way to plant, grow, and harvest food to sustain yourself & others.d. Store up food. (Remember, storing food was the MAIN COMPONENT of the wise plan

    Joseph made in his day).

    1. You may be led to buy some bulk foods and store them in your own containers, in away where moisture, bugs, and rodents wont ruin it.

    2. You may be led to learn how to can fruits and vegetables, and store them.3. You may feel the best way for you is to purchase supplies of pre-packaged food with

    good storage life.

    e. Share & distribute food wisely. [The Lord has been raising up Christian food distributionministries for just such a time as this! Remember the early church did not begin hording

food when the prophecy came about famine they began sharing financially with areas

    hardest hit.]

    f. Since famine is often the result of drought, prepare for having a source of fresh drinkingwater. [Wells with hand pumps, bottled water, water purification systems].

    5/12

    5

    g. Rely on the Holy Spirits help to create and multiply food and water by using gifts ofmiracles, and to heal the sick who are malnourished or suffering effects of famine.

    7) Someone has said, God hasnt lost the recipe for manna. The prophet Elijah during a timeof famine was sent by the Lord to a certain place where he drank from a brook and was fed

and sustained by food brought to him by ravens. We should expect some miracle provisions

during the time of severe famine that is coming. But Jesus is also telling us ahead of time so

that, like Joseph did, we can prepare for the famines that are certainly coming.

    B. Sign #6Earthquakes.Matthew 24:7b and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

    1) Earthquakes are sudden, and they often cause catastrophic devastation to the areas of theearth they strike. Jesus is telling us that these types of sudden, cataclysmic disasters are also

something we will be facing with increasing intensity in the end times. (It is GOOD that He is

telling us ahead of time! We dont like hearing it, but since it is true we NEED to hear it.)

    2) Statistics prove natural disasters in general have risen startlingly since 1990. Just here inAmerica, according to FEMA:

    a. In the 37 years between 1953 and 1989, there was an average of 23 major disasterdeclarations in the U.S. per year.

    b. In the 18 years that followed, that average more than doubledto 49 per year.c. The decade that we just lived through, from 2000 to 2010 saw some of the worst and

most destructive natural disasters in recorded history across the globe.

    d. What were the most destructive natural disaster in terms of loss of life and propertyduring these past 10 years on this planet? Earthquakes by far! [In fact of the top ten

deadliest natural disasters of any kind on record, six of them were earthquakes.] In the

past decade 60% of people killed by natural disasters died because of earthquakes .

Earthquakes are the deadliest natural hazard of the past 10 years and remain a

serious threat for millions of people worldwide, as eight out of the ten most populous

cities in the world are on earthquake fault lines, said Margareta Wahlstrm, UN

special representative of the secretary general for disaster risk reduction. - United

Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction Secretariat press release,

    January 2010.

    3) Jesus said these earthquakes will be in various places. Recent earthquakes:a. A major earthquake struck in Christchurch, New Zealand recently. Its one of many

earthquakes we have witnessed around the globe in the past few years.b. On December 26, 2004, one of the worst natural disasters in recorded history struck

Southeast Asia. The strongest earthquake to occur on the planet in 40 years hit the entire

Indian Ocean region. The massive 9.3 magnitude earthquake generated enormous

tsunami waves that crashed into the coastal areas of a number of nations including

Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Malaysia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.

The official death toll from the tsunami in the affected countries stands at approximately

230,000 people dead or still missing, making it the 10th

    deadliest natural disaster on

    record.

    6

    c. An earthquake occurred in the nation of Haiti on January 12, 2010. It was a magnitude7.0 earthquake, with an epicenter approximately 16 miles west of Port-au-Prince, Haiti's

capital. The Haitian government reported that an estimated 316,000 people died as a

result of the earthquake, making it the 5th

deadliest natural disaster on record. 300,000

people were injured and one million people made homeless. The government of Haiti

also estimated that 250,000 residences and 30,000 commercial buildings had collapsed or

were severely damaged. Haiti is still recovering from this earthquake.

    d. The Haiti earthquake was so devastating that some have forgotten that just six weekslater on February 27, 2010 an even larger earthquake struck off the coast of Chile. This

earthquake was the seventh strongest earthquake ever measured, and was five hundred

times more forceful than the earthquake in Haiti in January of 2010.

    1. The 2010 Chile earthquake had a magnitude of 8.8 and lasted up to 3 minutes.2. It was felt strongly in eight Chilean regions that together make up 80 percent of the

country's population, and generated a blackout that affected 93 percent of the

country's population which went on for several days in some locations.

    3. Tremors were felt in Argentina, and Peru.4. The earthquake triggered a tsunami which devastated several coastal towns in south-

central Chile. Tsunami warnings were issued in 53 countries, causing minor damage in

the San Diego area of California and in the Thoku region of Japan).

    5. This is an almost unbelievable fact, but seismologists estimate that the earthquakewas so powerful that it may have shortened the length of the day by 1.26

microseconds and moved the Earth's axis by 8 cm. Precise GPS measurements

indicate the movement caused by the earthquake shifted the entire city of

Concepcin 3.04 meters (10 ft) to the west. The capital Santiago experienced a

displacement of almost 10 inches west, and even Buenos Aires, about 840 miles from

Concepcin, looks to have shifted 1.5 inches.

    4) More earthquakes are coming.a. Most people think of earthquakes here in America occurring at the San Andreas fault line

in California, but the USGS reports that 39 of our 50 states are susceptible to seismic

    activity.

    b. The New Madrid Fault Line. One of the most active and vulnerable fault lines, recordingmore than 4,000 quakes of various scales over the past 4 decades, is the New Madrid

fault line which lies in the Midwest and touches five states Arkansas, Tennessee,

    Kentucky, Illinois, and Missouri.

    1. This year is the 200th anniversary of a massive series of earthquakes in Missouri whichmade the Mississippi River run backward and caused church bells to ring in New

England. During the winter of 1811 - 1812, a successive number of earthquakes

struck near New Madrid, Missouri. Great upthrust faults created 10-foot waterfalls inthe Mississippi River that gushed water in the wrong direction. One boatman on the

Mississippi River reported being pushed four miles upstream at the speed of a fast

    horse.

    2. It is believed that as many as 2,000 quakes & tremors struck the area over a 5 monthperiod of time, many of which were large enough to make front page news today. An

eyewitness wrote, The earth was in continual agitation visibly waving as a gentle

    sea.

    3. There are estimates that the largest of the earthquakes which took place on February7, 1812 was felt strongly over a 50,000 square mile area, and moderately within a 1

  • 7/28/2019 Preparing for What is Coming - Part 4 - Handout

    7/12

    7

million-square-mile area. Seismographs did not exist at that time, but it is believed

that this was the largest earthquake ever to strike the North American continent, and

possibly the strongest series of earthquakes ever known to have happened anywhere

    on earth.

    4. The most recent activity in the New Madrid Seismic Zone has been taking place nearGreenbrier, AR north of Little Rock. A magnitude 4.7 occurred there recently. It was

the 3rd 4.0 or greater earthquake in the region in a span of 6 months, 2 of them

occurring just within the past 3 weeks. Historical data shows that normally a 4.0 or

greater happens only once every 18 months in the New Madrid Seismic Zone. Only 24

have occurred in the region since 1975.

    5. Jessica Machetta, a writer for Missourinet, said to Missourians about our proximity tothe New Madrid fault, in an article in Feb. 2010: We have a choice. While we still

have time, we can get ready and cut our losses, or we can do little or nothing and be

caught unprepared. We cannot prevent the coming of an earthquake it will happen

but we can prevent it from being a major disaster. -Jessica Machetta, MissouriNet,

    Feb. 2010

    5) How do we prepare for earthquakes that are coming?a. Do not fear. Trust in God!

    Psalms 46:1-3

    (1) God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

    (2) Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be

moved into the heart of the sea,

    (3) though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah.

    b. Pray about how to prepare in physical terms.1. Earthquakes often leave the immediate population affected without basic necessities

such as shelter, food, water, communication, medical services, transportation.

    2. Read preparedness manuals and chart a plan for preparation.3. Websites to get information on preparedness and general information on dealing with

    an earthquake disaster:

    a) http://sema.dps.mo.govb) http://www.fema.gov/hazard/earthquakec) http://earthquake.usgs.govd) http://www.redcross.orge) http://www.ready.gov

    c. Preparing for earthquakes involves preparing for death and injury.d. Prepare to be used by the Holy Spirit to minister healing to those injured in the coming

earthquakes, and to minister peace to the fearful.

    6) Weve seen what recent history has shown in the way of destructive earthquakes, with 2occurring within the past 6 years that are listed in the top 10 deadliest natural disasters ever

recorded. But they are going to become even greater and more widespread. In Luke 21:11,

there is an adjective added to Jesus statement. He says, There will be GREAT earthquakes.

The Greek word is megas in our vernacular He is saying mega-earthquakes. Great

earthquakes are something that are coming, and we need to prepare for, in this end times

    season.

    8/12

    8

    C. Sign #7 Pestilences (plagues, diseases, destructive pests)Luke 21:11There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences.

    1) In Lukes account, a 3rd natural disaster category is listed that of pestilences. This word canrefer to: 1) plagues or epidemics of disease, or to 2) bothersome or destructive pests.

    2) Plagues of the past have proved devastating to life on the planet.a. Most of us are familiar with the bubonic plague which has struck in history more than

once, and has claimed millions of lives.

    b. Before eradication, measles is believed to have taken more that 200 mil lion lives.c. Smallpox has taken more than 300 million lives.d. Malaria has taken up to 250 million lives, and is still taking lives today.e. Tuberculosis has caused an estimated 100 million of deaths and still takes lives today.f. The more recent epidemic of HIV/AIDS which began in the 1980s has killed more than 25

million worldwide (it is estimated over 40 million are currently infected).g. Influenza [the flu] kills upwards of 500,000 people annually.h. Just these 7 diseases alone have caused nearly a billion deaths since their appearance on

    the planet.

    3) The list of incurable diseases is quite long. More well-known ones such as cancer anddiabetes take millions of lives a year, but there are dozens of lesser known diseases that are

    killing millions as well.

    4) New strains of diseases are being discovered, such as bird flu and swine flu, which areresistant to any known medications.

Virtually all the dominant strain of flu in the United States this season is resistant to the

leading antiviral drug Tamiflu, and scientists and health officials are trying to figure out

why. Last winter, about 11 percent of the throat swabs from patients with the most

common type of flu that were sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for

genetic typing showed a Tamiflu-resistant strain. This season, 99 percent do. Its quite

shocking, said Dr. Kent A. Sepkowitz, director of infection control atMemorial Sloan-

Kettering Cancer Centerin New York. Weve never lost an antimicrobial this fast. It

blew me away. The single mutation that creates Tamiflu resistance appears to be

spontaneous, and not a reaction to overuse of the drug. Exactly how the Tamiflu-

resistant strain emerged is a mystery, several experts said. This looks like a

spontaneous development of resistance in the most unlikely places possibly in

Norway, which doesnt use antivirals at all, said Dr. Arnold S. Monto, a flu expert at theUniversity of Michigans School of Public Health. -New York Times, Jan. 8, 2009

    5) Remember, we are only in the beginning of birth pains. These pestilences in the form ofplagues and diseases are going to increase during the season of the end times. We need to

learn to walk in the compassion and the power of the Holy Spirit and minister healing to the

sick. We need to receive the full counsels of God about healing! Let the prophet Malachis

word visit this end times generation:

  • 7/28/2019 Preparing for What is Coming - Part 4 - Handout

    9/12

    9

Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my nameshall the Sun of righteousness arise

    with

    healingin his wings

    a. As pestilences increase in the form of incurable diseases affecting widespreadpopulations of people, there is a need for an army to arise with the fear of the Lord in

their hearts and with healing in their hands!

    b. We need faith, we need miracles, we need healings! Start now praying for the sick, onyour job and in the marketplaces. Offer to go visit people in hospitals and treatment

centers and pray for them. Lets get practiced up on praying for the sick. Lets be good at

    it!

    c. Lets talk to people about their relationship to Jesus. Lets get used to helping peoplewith confessing and repenting from their sins, declaring their faith in Jesus, and receiving

    salvation and healing.

    d. As pestilent and epidemic diseases are spreading, lets spread our own virus of cleansingand healing in Jesus name! Lets stand up in the face of it and declare Jesus is Lord.

    6) The other type of pestilence this word refers to is that of an invasive species which attackagricultural land or livestock. These could be insects, weeds, fungi, bacteria, viruses, and any

other disease-causing agents which interrupts the production of livestock, crops, and

    rangeland.

    a. An April 2004 report of the Western Economics Forum stated:There is renewed interest in invasive species today for two key reasons. First,

scientists believe that both the speed and the extent of dispersion of invasive species

have increased in the last few decades because of population growth, alteration of

the environment, and globalization. Second, in the post 9/11 world, political fears

include the possibility of the deliberate introduction of pests by terroristsa

biosecurity risk. -Western Economics Forum, April, 2004

    b. This mention of pests being purposefully introduced by terrorists brings us to the 8th signof the coming of the Lord.

    D. Sign # 8 Terrors (fearful sights & events).Luke 21:11There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences.

And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.

    1) Jesus says there will be terrors occurring during the end times generation. The ESV andNASB translate this word as terrors. Other versions say (KJV) fearful sights, (NIV) fearful

    events, or (NLT) terrifying things.

    2) As we read on down in Luke chapter 21, we find Jesus repeating this, telling us that fear willbecome a real challenge in the end times generation:

Luke 21:26 -people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world.

    3) Terrorism: We are already living in a time when our global culture is being assaulted byterror. Aside from state-sponsored terrorism [U.S. State Dept lists Cuba, Iran, Sudan, and

Syria], huge networks exist which are not controlled by any particular nation or government

leader, but have their own system of governance and code of terror. Terrorism may take

    many forms:

    a. Agro-terrorismb. Bioterrorismc. Environmental terrorismd. Aircraft-hijacking terrorisme. Car-bombing terrorismf. Piracy terrorismg. Hostage-taking terrorismh. Kidnapping terrorismi. Letter-bombing terrorismj. Suicide-attack terrorismk. School-shooting [or other mass, indiscriminate shooting] terrorisml. Nuclear terrorism

    4) History of terrorism (from Wikipedia).a. 1800-1899 4 terrorist events were listed globally.b. 1900-1969, there were 12 total terrorist events listed.c. 1970-2010, the list was divided into specific years.

    1. 1970 There were listed 9 terrorist events in this one year alone.2. 1990 I picked the middle year of the time span from 1970 to 2010, which was 1990.

There were listed 22 terrorist events in 1990.

    3. 2000 I then picked the middle year of the remaining time span 1990-2010, whichwas 2000. That year the statistical information went from total for the year to a

month-by-month list. In January of 2000 alone there were 16 terrorist events. In the

year 2000 there were 185 recorded terrorist events globally.

    4. Here is a quote from the National Counterterrorism Centers 2009 Annual Report onTerrorism released on April 30, 2010: Approximately 11,000 terrorist attacks

occurred in 83 countries during 2009, resulting in over 58,000 victims, including

nearly 15,000 fatalities. Terrors are certainly increasing in the earth!

    5) Everyone in this room remembers seeing a terror or fearful sight like Jesus speaks of. Ittook place on September 11, 2001. On that date, terrorist attacks in the U.S. killed 2,973

people [and many more later from exposure to toxic dust] when three hijacked airliners

crashed into the World Trade Center, and The Pentagon. A fourth airliner, originally intended

to hit the U.S. Capitol Building, crashed in a wooded area in Somerset County, Pennsylvania,

after a heroic revolt against the hijackers by the plane's passengers.

    6) How do we prepare for the terrors these fearful sights and events that will be coming withincreasing frequency and force? Did you know, the word terror and the word pestilence arefound in what has been called The Believers 911 Manual? Psalm 91, beginning at verse 1 is

    the Believers 911 Manual!

    Psalms 91:1-10

    (1) He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

    (2) I will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

    (3) For he will deliver youfrom the snare of the fowler and from thedeadly pestilence.

    (4) He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his

faithfulness is a shield and buckler.

    (5) You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day,

    (6) nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.

    (7) A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come

    near you.

    (8) You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked.

    (9) Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place-- the Most High, who is my refuge-

    (10) no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.

    a. Do not be in fear of the coming terrors. Just like we said in preparing for disasters such asearthquakes, the first and foremost way to prepare is to TRUST GOD! Make God your

refuge now and trust completely in Him!

    Psalms 23:4-5

    (4) Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for

you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

    (5) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head

    with oil; my cup overflows.

2 Timothy 1:7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

    b. Receive courage and bravery from the Lord.Psalms 27:14 Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for

    the LORD!

Psalms 31:24 Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!

    1. Our courage can turn the tables on terror! When God was leading His people into thepromised land, He told them that He would send HIS TERROR among their enemies,

causing them to fear the people of God.

Exodus 23:27I will send My terror ahead of you, and throw into confusion all the

people among whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to

    you.

Deuteronomy 2:25This day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you upon the

peoples everywhere under the heavens, who, when they hear the report of you, will

tremble and be in anguish because of you.

    2. Lets pray for courage to turn the tables of terror. We are not of those who shrinkback. We will not fear the terror of the night nor the arrow that flies by day. There

will be supernatural courage available to face the terrors and fearful sights and events

with courage in this end time hour.

    c. Prepare your body, soul, and spirit to face and go through terror-striking events, whichmay include terrorist attacks or natural disasters & catastrophes other than earthquakes

that will strike fear when they occur.

    1. There is information in the websites listed previously under preparing forearthquakes about good ways to prepare for other disasters, including terrorist

    attacks.

    2. Pray about how the Lord would instruct you to prepare for times ahead that willinclude terrible sights and events upon the earth. It is time to be bold and

courageous, not foolish and unprepared. It will be difficult to boldly proclaim the

coming of Jesus if you are already gone from the earth because you didnt prepare!

Lets prepare as the Lord leads so we will be preserved to be His mighty witnesses in

the end times generation and reap a harvest for His glory!

    4. CONCLUSION.A. These are the eight descriptions weve looked as thus far of what we are to prepare for that is

coming during this end times generations:

    1) Rampant deception.2) Wars.3) Rumors of war (tumults, commotions, disorder, instability).4) Uprisings nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom.5) Famines.6) Earthquakes.7) Pestilences (plagues, diseases, destructive pests).8) Terrors (fearful sights and events).

    B. Remember that these will comes as birth pains come at the end of a pregnancy. They will comesuddenly and will increase in scope and intensity. They signal that the coming of the Lord Jesus is

near. They will cause great difficulty in the earth, but they will not last forever! Jesus is coming

back to the planet! He is coming! He is coming to cleanse the earth and establish His rule here.

    C. Lets prepare for these specific things the Lord tells us are coming upon the earth in this season.Lets prepare to be mighty witnesses during this end times generation. Lets ask for wisdom and

courage to prepare for what is coming, as He leads us to. Not out of fear, but having great faith

and courage to follow His voice through the days ahead. Amen!
