Audio Recording

Recording in Sound Forge Room 204 has an audio station, or you can bring

microphone in here, or record in your room using Vista or XP

…Using our Sound room: Start Sound Forge File>New Choose sample rate (48,000) Click the Record button on the toolbar

You can also record using the Windows sound recorder (Windows XP – Accessories>Entertainment>Sound Recorder and Vista, Windows 7---Accessories>Sound Recorder)

Adding color bars, a countdown leader, and black video

In the Project window, click the “New Item” icon…next to the trash can (or File>New)

Choose Bars and Tone

Click OK in the next window:

This is used if you are sending something for use on TV Also use universal countdown leader if sending to TV

station…add it now:

Now add Black Videoo Note: Must have video at all times. Suppose have

music at end of video, but no video to go with it…add Black Video as a spacer, place holder.

Titles and CreditsLet’s create an opening title, then ending credits

Adding the Opening Title Move your playhead into an area of black, or else

you’ll see an actual frame as a background New Item>Title

We’re going to add a curved title (path) using the Path Type Tool to create a path for our titleo Use the Path Type Tool (NOT the pen tool!) to

create a semi-circle by clicking several times:

Can use the smooth pen tool (Same as in Illustrator, InDesign) to convert each anchor to a smooth (curved) anchor

Now click the regular type tool and type The Cat’s Meow…

It might not fit, but that’s OK; we’ll shrink the font size

Look on the right and find the font size property

Click and drag the number towards the left until the text fits…

Use tracking to make text spread over the complete path

Use the Selection tool and move text box around so it fits in the safe area

You can also apply a style…click one of the Styles from the bottom:

I used the Hobo Black style You may need to select the text first Then use tracking again to adjust position

Apply a color (Watch for the gamut warnings…colors can’t show on TV

Click the Fill check box

Click the Fill Type and choose Solid (versus gradient etc)

You may have had to click the small arrow on the left of the word “Fill” to expand the options

Can choose a color from the color picker or use the eyedropper

Click the “x” in upper right corner to close and save The title is transparent, so we can place it over a still

or movie clip and the clip will show through, except where the words are.

The title is added to your project window…using the name you assigned.

Create Ending Credits…move playhead to blank area near the end…will have black

Let’s create ending credits for our movie Click the New Item icon and choose Title again As the title name, enter Ending Credits Choose the text tool Set font size to about 32, choose a style, and a color Enter 3 or 4 lines of text, for example:

Select all (Ctrl-A) if necessary before adjusting size Use Selection tool and position the titles (credits) at

the bottom of the screen Adding a logo to the ending credits

Be sure nothing is selected, and the title asset open. Select Title>Logo >Insert Logo on the main

window…makes no sense, seems to me, the tool should be inside the title window!!.

Select the catgraphic.jpg in Project1 folder

Roll versus CrawlMake the text roll (bottom to top) versus crawl (from left to right or right to left)

Find the small icon that has an arrow pointing up and down

A roll moves text vertically, from bottom to top (default in Premiere)

A crawl moves horizontally (side to side) Click the Roll option Check the Start Off Screen and End Off Screen

Review: To shorten an audio clip recall we can: edit in Source window or use Razor tool

Delete the audio track Add cat scratch fever again (OR Sparks)

Razor about 10 seconds past the end of your images and ending credits

Select second halfo Delete ito Add black video if needed

Audio Notes There are 4 channels/tracks + Master

Eventually all get mixed to the master Stereo sound/music on Audio channels/tracks 1-3 Mono will generate new 4th audio track. It (The track

may/may not be visible in Premiere…will if you add mono sound)

Gradually Increasing the volume

We’re going to add two keyframes, the first one at the beginning of the audio track(00:00:00:00. . . or press “Home” key on the keyboard), and a second one about 5 seconds in.(00:00:05:00)You may need to show the volume line. . . (Collapse / Expand Track) small arrow next to the Audio label:

Fill any empty video areas with black video Let’s start quiet, and get louder at the beginning of the

movie Select the audio track clip Position the play head at 00:00:00:00 (Use

Program (Or Home key) window, if needed)

Click Show Keyframes

A tiny circle is now on your timeline…look for it Add a second keyframe at 00:00:05:00

The two keyframe indicators mark the beginning and ending of the audio portion of the volume level we want to control

Click on first keyframe (cursor changes to have a circle attached to it)

Drag yellow line (volume) down, as the above picture shows: Be SURE you see the “ramp”, or the entire clip may be adjusted.

Make sure you click the keyframe (circle) before you drag down

Will gradually ramp up to second keyframe

Do same at end of the clip…on your own Add two keyframes at end of the audio clip Drag down the volume by dragging ending

Zooming Animations Want to choose an image that’s larger than 720 x 480,

then zoom in o Will go from 53% scale (reduced size) to 86%

(large size) scaling---image will start small, get larger as we zoom in

o Pick any clip o Right-click and choose Remove Effects:

Choose Motion:

Your clip should now be back to its original size

Move the play head to the start of the clip Click on the actual clip on the timeline. Click the Effects Control tab…will use built-in

Motion effect Click the Motion menu down arrow

Adjust the Scale value so the complete image is visible. Mine was about 51%

Click the Toggle Animation icon next to Scale.

This says we will create an animation by having Premiere create new, in-between (tween) frames.

This will add a starting keyframe

Move to the end of the clip..use the effects control playhead

Set the Scale to about 86% , and reposition

An ending keyframe is automatically added, as you can see from above

Move your play head to the start of the clip and play it by dragging to the right

You might need to reposition the image in the Program window

Panning Animations This time, we’ll pan across an image To do so, we change the location (X,Y) values Here, we seem to move the camera as we pan from left

to right. To do this, we modify location parameters.

Choose a clip (Cozmo Calendar works nicely) and set its size back to the original 1280 pixels, as we just did for the zooming.

Click the Motion Effect Controls tab Note the position is 360, 240

To accept this as the starting point of the animation, click the Toggle Animation icon next to Position.

Otherwise, set the clip’s starting point by moving the image

When you click the Toggle Animation icon, the starting keyframe is added

Move the Effect Control playhead to the end of the clip

Move the image to its desired ending location:

Play the animation

Zooming AND Panning…figure it out on your own…easy extension of what we’ve done…!!
