Otis GeN2 Premier system: The Benefits
An innovative machine-roomless system which provides:
Environmental protection
• The belts and gearless machine with sealed-for-life bearings require no
addition of oil or polluting lubricants.
• A gearless machine together with a ReGen drive achieves energy savings of
up to 75% compared with a conventional system. It also reduces operational
costs.
Enhanced ride quality
• Replacing conventional steel ropes with smooth, polyurethane-coated steel
belts results in a quieter and smoother ride.
• A gearless machine controlled by a closed-loop ReGen drive provides a
comfortable ride with outstanding stopping accuracy.
Safety and reliability
• The PULSE™ system continually monitors the status of the belt’s steel cords.
• A battery-operated rescue system with electronic speed monitoring enables
safe and fast rescue of a trapped passenger in the event of a power failure.
• The REM™ system provides two-way communication and observes lift
performance 24h/7d.
 CONVENTIONAL STEEL ROPES
The stiffness of conventional steel ropes requires a largebending radius.
 FLEXIBLE STEEL BELTS
The polyurethane-coated flat steel belt is up to 20% lighterand lasts up to 3 times longer than conventional ropes. Itsflexibility results in a much smaller bending radius.
 COMPACT GEARLESS MACHINE
A sheave – which can be as small as 10 cm in diameter – has allowed Otis to design a machine that is up to 70% smaller than conventional machines.
 MACHINE ROOM SYSTEM
In a conventional system, the large machine and controllerrequire a machine room typically positioned above the hoistway. All bearing loads are supported by the building structure.
 MACHINE ROOMLESS SYSTEM
The compact GeN2 gearless machine does not require amachine room and can be easily positioned on top of the carand counterweight rails. This means all bearing loads can betransferred to the pit, thus reducing structural building costs.
 CONVENTIONAL MACHINE
The broad bending radius of steel ropes requires a largemachine with a sheave that is typically 50-60 cm in diameter.

Conventional Geared Lift With GeN2 Technology
 CONVENTIONAL DRIVES
Conventional open loop systems mean inconsistent motion profile resulting in jerking, tripping hazards, longer flight time and high energy consumption.
 CLOSED LOOP VF REGEN DRIVE
State-of-the-art digital design provides a smoother ride, improved floor-to-floor flight time and up to 75% energy savings compared with conventional drives.
 PERMANENT MONITORING OF THE BELTS
The PULSE electronic system permanently monitors the status of the belt’s steel cords 24h/7d.
 CONVENTIONAL DISPATCHING SYSTEMS
In conventional systems, passengers press an ‘up’ or ‘down’ callbutton and await the lift arrival. Then they crowd into the first carthat comes, jostle to select their destination and have to stop atevery floor selected.
 COMPASSTM DESTINATION ENTRY SYSTEM
With the optional Compass destination entry system, passengers input their destinations prior to entering the car and the system instantly directs each passenger to a specifically assigned car.
 CONVENTIONAL INSPECTION OF STEEL ROPES
Traditional visual inspections of the ropes are only undertakenat intervals and require taking the lift out of operation for maintenance.

REGEN DRIVE
As the preferred choice for ‘green’ building initiatives,Otis ReGen drives deliver substantial energy savingswhile helping to meet or exceed established world-wide standards.
• Energy savings (up to 75%)
• Low harmonic distortion (typically below 5%) andreduced Radio Frequency Interference
• Operational cost savings through reduced peakpower demand and decreased energy consumption
• Optimal performance - the drive operates with voltage fluctuations of up to 30%.
A typical lift includes three major components: the machine, the lift car and the counterweight. The counterweight is designed to balance a half-loaded car. Electrical power is generated when aheavily-loaded car travels in a ‘down’ direction or a lightly-loaded car travels in an ‘up’ direction (green area of graph).
With a non-regenerative drive the energy generated isdissipated in a set of resistors creating a waste-heatload in the building.
With a regenerative drive, the energy generated is fedback into the building’s grid where it can be used byother loads connected to the same network. The energyconsumed with a non-regenerative drive is representedby the yellow area while with a regenerative drive theenergy consumed is just the difference between theyellow and green areas.
The amount of energy savings due to regenerationdepends on various system parameters and configu-rations such as car load, speed, length of run, trafficpattern and system efficiency.

Cumulatively, the features of GeN2 Premier result in aquiet, smooth and comfortable ride. With appropriatetreatment of the hoistway walls, the low noise gearlessmachine, mounted on isolation rubber pads, reducesvibration to the building and keeps average noise levelsin adjacent rooms to below 30 dB(A) – in compliancewith strict EU building regulations.
An extensive range of car designs provides solutions to differingaesthetic needs.
OPTIMATM
The Optima car perfectly illustrates the principle thatelegance can be achieved through simplicity – providedit’s based on an inspired idea. With the Optima design, that idea is embodied by the car operating panel actuallyilluminating the car. Important to the car’s refined appearance are the panelsthemselves. In three finishes, they are cheering to theeye and easy to maintain. In fact it is the balancebetween the aesthetic and the practical that definesthe Optima car.

SELECTATM
The name unequivocally defines the design. TheSelecta car is about choice. Again illuminated by thecar operating panel, it satisfies the most diverserequirements. There are five car wall designs, variousflooring types together with different car operatingpanel designs and handrail types. With endless possi-bilities, the Selecta car has, effectively, been conceivedby us to be designed by you.
LUMINATM
The Lumina car is distinguished by its range of ceilinglighting arrangements. Each offers a different level ofillumination, from the discreet to the sumptuous, andin combination with a choice of four wall types, a hostof decorative effects can be achieved. Painstakingattention to detail can also be found in the quality ofthe car fittings. Cumulatively they, too, help establishthe prestige of the Lumina car.
PANORAMATM
A novel and exciting way to travel in a commercial or residential complex, the attraction of the Panoramalift is that it is both designed to offer passengers a viewand the public a focal viewpoint. Adding the drama ofmovement to an architectural concept, the Panoramalift is increasingly chosen for installation in a lobby oratrium. The glass panels are available in clear or smokedglass and the frames around them in white skinplate, one of three stainless steel finishes or prime-coatedsteel ready for finishing on site. The lift can be adapted toany number of architectural and decorative specifications.

COMPASS DESTINATION ENTRY SYSTEM
The strength of the optional Compass system is that itoffers passengers an efficient and personalised serviceat the same time as improving system performance.
Unlike conventional dispatching, the Compass systemhelps avoid congestion and transports passengers totheir desired floor with less waiting time and fewerstops.
Passengers input their destination with keycards or,manually, using touchscreens and keypads strategicallyplaced in the lobby.
The system instantly directs them to designated carswith each passenger knowing which car to take - somoving directly to the appropriate car location.
Knowing the right car to enter helps avoid confusionand passengers automatically rushing to the next carthat arrives. Hence it enhances traffic flow immeasurably.
Passengers travelling to adjacent floors are assignedthe same car. This, too, significantly reduces traveltime by limiting the number of stops per trip.
❚ Otis maintenance systems reflect the philosophy that the best time toresolve problems is before theyarise. Otis technicians pursue a rigorousservice programme to meet a building’srequirements.
