Preliminary Task Evaluation

1) What was your original idea and how did you execute this idea? Our original idea was: I walk into a café to meet Francesca; Francesca is fiddling with a gold bracelet, I lean over the table, slamming my hands then sitting down. We have a conversation until I finally walk out. Chontae would direct and Tyra would film. We also would have three editing techniques to include in our scene; 180 degree rule, match on action and shot reverse shot. My group was split up successfully, this is because we each had different roles. The members of my group were Francesca, Tyra, Chonate and I. Francesca was one of the actresses and main editor, Tyra filmed, Chontae was a director and extra in the scene and I was the other main actress. If we could work together and improve on one thing, this would be to ensure continuity in a scene.

2) Production Paperwork – how was it useful? Our production paperwork included a treatment, call sheet, breakdown of shots and storyboard. It was useful because the treatment was a brief summary of our scene; the call sheet went into depth about the scene; the breakdowns of shots were all the shots we would include in our scene and the meaning behind them. The production paperwork we found most successful in terms of organisation was our storyboard. This was because we used this on the day of our filming and everything that was included in the storyboard was included in our filming. However, we also feel one piece of production paperwork which could have been in more detail could have also been the storyboard. This is because it lacked the most in depth in all our paperwork. We could have better sketches and more writing on the storyboard.

3) You idea – did it evolve in anyway? Our original idea was planned in our treatment. We feel that it did evolve slightly in the call sheet, as what would happen and what we would include, went into depth in that piece of production paperwork. In our group, we all contributed to what would happen in the scene. This came to pass and the person who had responsibility of directing and ensuring we followed our plan was the director, Chontae. In the end, we followed the plan thoroughly and all worked out after filming. In the future, we feel that there would not be much to improve on and we would do the same again.

4) How did you find your technical skills on the production work? As a group, I found our technical skills on the production work successful. As Francesca was the main editor of our filmed scene, she was able to edit the scene with no trouble and others in the group made contributions. Tyra was the member of our group filming the scene and she also did well. We had all learnt how to film correctly with the professional camera even though only one of us would actually be filming. In terms of holding the camera correctly and ensuring editing cuts were smooth, this was the case in our scene. Tyra concentrated and worked well to ensure the best results in our scene and if she found any errors, we would re-shoot. She also ensured that the three main editing techniques to be filmed were correct. If we could change anything in terms of technical ability, would maybe be to include other editing

techniques and in the future, someone else in the group could have the responsibility of filming.
