EXCURSIONS:

* VILLA MEDICI - Académie de France à Rome The French Academy in Rome is an Academy located in the Villa Medici, within the Villa Borghese, on the Pincio (Pincian Hill) in Rome, Italy. Today the Academy, under the tutelage of the Ministry of Culture and Communication of France, welcomes and hosts artists and researchers of all nationalities, to enable them to pursue their projects of art and architecture. The Academy was founded at the Palazzo Capranica in 1666 by Louis XIV, under the direction of Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Charles Le Brun and Gian Lorenzo Bernini. From 1803 the French Academy in Rome moved to Villa Medici. The gardens of the Villa Medici, with an extension of over 7 hectares from north to south, maintain a XVIth century style. Villa Medici and its gardens were elected “Parco Più Bello d’Italia 2015” ("Most beautiful garden of Italy") in the category Public Gardens, along with the Garden of Ninfa, for the category Private Garden. Villa Medici and the Garden of Ninfa were elected among more than 1000 participants.

** CASTEL PORZIANO NATURE RESERVE Since 1999 it has been recognized as State Natural Reserve. A strict system protects both historical-archaeological beauties (aqueducts, roads and Roman buildings) and environment with a great naturalistic value that represent one of the last patches of coastal forests that in the past covered the ancient Latium coast. Proceeding from the sea to the inland, you can see a large area of unpolluted beach, recent sand dunes with pioneer and colonizing plants, ancient dunes strengthened with wetlands behind them and Maquis areas, with green and aromatic species. Woods alternate to clearings and natural grasslands, that give hospitality to centuries-old tree specimens. Of particular interest are the so-called “pools”, natural waterholes that prove the ancient presence of wet environments and flooded woods extended to the Pontine Plain. Wildlife population is extremely rich: boar, fallow deer, roe deer, deer, fox, hedgehog, porcupine, reptiles, and many birds both sedentary and migratory.

*** ROSE GARDEN Is a public garden in Rome, located opposite the Circus Maximus on the Aventine Hill. The park was established in 1931. Over 1100 varieties of roses are grown there, many of them gifts from countries around the world. In this site, near the Roman Ghetto, since 1645 until 1934 was in place the Jewish cemetery in Rome. In 1934 the Jewish community of Rome obtained as cemetery a section of the monumental cemetery of Campo Verano and only in 1950 the City Council, with the agreement of the Jewish community, decided to create a rose garden in the current area.
