MUSSELBURGH GRAMMAR SCHOOL S4(N5) and S5/S6 PRELIMINARY EXAMINATIONS 12-26 January2015 NOTES FOR PUPILS Pupils will not have Study Leave during the prelims. Pupils will follow their normal timetable when not being examined. They should go to registration in the morning and if they have an examination starting at 9.00 a.m. they should be allowed to go to the hall as soon as they have been registered. When an exam finishes at or after 12.40 p.m. pupils may begin their lunch break and when an examination finishes at or after 15.30 p.m. they may go straight home. Please note there are a few examinations where candidates should take their break at an alternative time. Pupils who take breaks at alternative times should conduct themselves in an orderly manner and stay clear of examination rooms which may still be in use. When some members of a class are being examined no new work should be covered with the others. However it is important that this time is used productively. If your subject has not been examined teachers may allow you to revise. Pupils should bring materials for this purpose. Time may also be used for work on Internal Assessments or other forms of class work. Teachers will decide how the time is to be used. Pupils are allowed to leave class 10 minutes before their examination begins. Pupils should be polite when asking to leave early to go to exams. Pupils should check timetables the day before each examination, have the correct equipment, know where the exam is to be held and which seat they are in. Examinations lists for the day’s examinations are displayed on the examination notice board outside the Hall. Pupils should arrive 10 minutes before the start of an exam. If a pupil is late they should go to the school office as soon as they arrive and they will be escorted into the exam if they are not more than 30 minutes late. Mobile phones and other electronic devises must not be taken into the examination room. The SQA can withdraw a subject pass if it happens in the May exams. Our advice to pupils is that they leave the phone at home on the day of the exam. Urgent messages should be relayed through the school office. Behaviour must be of the highest order. Pupils should wear full school uniform for all exams. All school bags should be left at the back of the hall and outdoor jackets removed during examinations.

NOTES FOR PUPILS

Pupils will not have Study Leave during the prelims.

Invigilators are there to ensure that all pupils get the best chance to do their very best in the examinations. Be respectful to them. If extra paper is required, a hand should be put up and the invigilator will bring the paper. If pupils finish the examination before the end of the time allocated, pupils should check over papers and remain still and quiet.

Toilets should be used before examinations. In case of emergency a pupils will be escorted to the toilet by and invigilator.

If a pupil is unwell and unable to sit an examination someone should let the school office know at the start of the day. Arrangements should be made with the teacher to sit the examination at another time.

The prelim timetable is given to pupils in plenty of time for pupils to plan a study programme and put it into practice. The better the standard of study now the more it will pay off in final examinations.

One or two pupils have a clash on the timetable. Pupils should see Mrs Mackie in the first instance so that an alternative arrangement can be made.
