What is the point of conjugating verbs in Spanish?

We conjugate verbs in order to correctly say WHO is doing the action (the subject of the sentence).

Doing so allows us to speak in a grammatically correct manner (subject-verb agreement). Ejemplo: I speak Spanish. She also speaks Spanish.

How to conjugate verbs

All verbs in the infinitive mean “to _____” and end in either –ar,-er, -ir Ejemplo: escribir = “to write”

We conjugate verbs by: 1) Dropping the –ar, -er, or –ir 2) Adding an ending according to the

SUBJECTSUBJECT of the sentence (WHO you are talking TO or ABOUT)

How to conjugate: --er verbs

1) Comer = the infinitive

2) Com = the stem

3) Then you add on the endings-

-o -emos-es X-e -en

-ER verbos

él/ ella bebe beben

NOTE the endings: Similar to –AR but with -E

2) escrib = the stem

-IR Verbs

When we conjugate verbs in the present tense, it can have several meanings: Ejemplo: Yo aprendo el español

It can mean: I learn Spanish. OR I am learning Spanish. OR I do learn Spanish.
