Prefect Data Report Fall 2009 A substantial portion of Carleton students utilize the prefect program
‐ Prefects were assigned to 16 science and social science courses during fall term, and held over 250 sessions. ‐ 370 students attended prefect sessions during fall term, which is approximately 20% of enrolled students. ‐ 74% of students enrolled in a prefect course attended at least one session. ‐ Of students that attended, 48% went to more than half of the offered prefect sessions. ‐ The average student enrolled in a prefect course attended 3 sessions. ‐ The average prefect session had 23% of the class in attendance.
Students of all class years worked with prefects
‐ Of students enrolled in prefect courses 30% of freshmen, 25% of sophomores, 10% of juniors, and 8% of seniors attended at least one prefect session.
‐ On average freshmen attended 5 prefect sessions (32%), sophomores and juniors attended 3 (18%), and seniors attended 2 (15%).
Students met with prefects for introductory and advance science and social science courses
‐ Students in science courses attended an average of 3.5 sessions (24%), while those in social science courses attended an average of 3 sessions (21%)
‐ Students in introductory and upper level courses attended an average of 3 sessions (23% and 17% respectively). Male and female students attended sessions equally
‐ Out of those who attended, men went to an average of 4 sessions (29%), while women went to an average of 3 (33%). ‐ The gender of the prefect did not significantly affect attendance.
Students who attended the first prefect session were more likely to attend future sessions
‐ 28% of students attended their first offered prefect sessions. ‐ Students that attended the first prefect session attended an average of 6 sessions over the whole term (42%), while
students that did not attended an average of 2 (13%).
