Best Performance of the Blades

Elematic has the highest standard of precast plants. Levanto has the highest standard of dia-mond blades. Together we develop and conti-nously improve the blades in order to perform more precisely and to make the blade last long-er and cut faster.

Groove Segments

The Groove Diamond Segments are made of hard and soft layers. When cutting, the surface of the segments are worn unevenly making the blade faster cutting and more durable.

Blades with Groove segments are efficient and longlast-ing. Levanto has a new standard in segment height that has increased from 11mm to 14mm. This means approximately 30% more cuts therefor less time spent changing blades.

In the picture to the left you can see a Groove Segment that is sligthly used, mark the clearly visible layers.

In the picture to the right you see a normal segment: no layers at all.

The Core of the Groove-E

LC Laser Cut

Laser Cut blades are steel centers which have patterns etched out by a laser. This changes the harmonic proper-ties of the steel center reducing the sound waves travelling along the blade from the cutting edge. The result is a 7-8 dB reduction in noise level and a lower frequency making the sound less stressful to the user.

SC Sandwich Core

Sandwich Core blades have three layers, with two steel plates point soldered together on either side of a thin cop-per foil. The different harmonic properties of the steel and the copper results in the sound waves travelling through the core to be silenced, reducing the noise level by 9-11 dB com-pared to the normal core.

There are two different types of cores used in the precast cutting blades:

Handling of Saw Blades

Blade Storage

If the blade is not used immediately, it should be stored on a flat surface or preferably hung by its bore.

Never lean the blade against a wall. The blade will be “wrangled” and loose its tension and will need to be hammered again.

Mounting of the Blade

Before mounting the blade please pay special attention to:

• the cleanliness of the spindle and the flanges; all sur-faces should be cleaned with a fine abrasive cloth

• any deformation of the flange rims should be rectified with a smooth file, so that the blade is not resting on the spindle thread

Direction of Rotation

The blade should be mounted according to the directions of rota-tion shown by the arrow on the steel center.

Checking the Position of the Blade

If frequent dismounting of the blade is necessary, remem-ber to mark the position of the blade and flanges in relation to the spindle. This makes it easier to mount the blade again correctly.

The bore diameter should be the same as the spindle (within 0,01 mm) in order to avoid any radial movement. If the bore is too large, it can be reduced by a steel ring with the same thickness as the steel blade. If the bore of the blade is too small do not try to enlarge it yourself! Please send the blade back to Levanto.

To be checked with mounting

Shaft radial run-outCheck with the comparator that the arbor radial run-out does not exceed the tolerance limits.

Flange side run-outCheck with the comparator that the lateral wobble does notexceed the tolerance limits.

Handling of Saw Blades

Perpendicularity of the shaftCheck that the arbor is perpendicular to the table.

Blade radial run-outCheck that radial run-out does not exceed the tolerance limits.

Blade side run-outCheck with the comparator that the lateral wobble does not exceed the tolerance limits. Double tolerance values are dan-gerous.

Out-of-parallelismThe movement of the table (the blade) should be done strictly in the plane of the blade (the table). The parallelism will be checked with the comparator. It is easy to check if the blade is straight by placing a metal ruler or a tight string from segment to segment on the blade. The space between the ruler and the blade should be even all the way.

The Most Common Problems

Wrong tools when fixing the tension

One common problem is that the blade has been hammered with the wrong tools when tensioning. This might cause tension to reduce during the work.

Never use a carbide faced hammer when tensioning.

Cracks in the blade

Cracks in the core usually appear when there is too much stress or force used when cutting. It can come from lack of water, too high speed or too hard segment specification. To prevent cracks from progressing a hole can be drilled at the very end of the crack.

Loosing of Segments

In some cases segments come loose. It might come from too much heat when cutting, lack of water or vibrations during the cutting, wrong tension or poor brazing in production.

Cracks in the blade

In worst case the cracks can cause loss of the complete teeth in the blade. Therefore it is important to look for cracks on the blade and try to solve why the cracks appear.

The Most Common Problems

The core is worn out

Lack of water when cutting either on one side or on both sides might cause uneven wear out of the core. This again can cause loss of segments.

Water supply is not sufficent

One of the most important thing to follow up is that there is enough water when cutting. Many times the water holes in the flence or the water pipes are stuck or not positioned correctly. This will cause fast wearing of segments, vibrations in machine, wearing of bearings and loss of tension in the blade.

Bad storage or treatment

Remember to store the blades according to previously mentioned recommendations as well as in dry conditions.
