MEN’S GOLF

Please allow me to introduce myself..... I am proudly Preakness Hills’ new

Tennis Professional, Andrew Sirota. Having grown up in Bergen County, I

was an All-County player in high school. I then went on to play Division I

tennis for the University of Vermont where I earned All-Conference honors. I

have been coaching professionally for over 20 years, and am USPTA as well as

Cardio Tennis certified. I have been lucky to train under some of the world’s

leaders in the industry in both junior and adult instruction. Throughout my

career I have worked proficiently with all levels and ages. I feel my "common

sense" approach to the game allows for fast and efficient improvements for

students. I hope my passion for the sport inspires my students to reach their

optimum potential.

Words cannot express how thrilled I am to be joining the team at Preakness

Hills. I can’t wait for the season to begin. I am looking forward to meeting all

of the members and their families in 2015 and to truly make PHCC my home.

My goal is to create a culture of fun and energy on our beautiful courts. This

season you can expect numerous programs and events to celebrate the tennis

community of the Club. There will be something for every age and ability level, from the brand new to

the seasoned player. I will put my heart and soul into making PHCC an unbelievably exciting place to

enjoy the amazing sport I love so much. Thank you for allowing me to join the Preakness Hills family.

We are very excited about the progress of our new tennis and pool pavilion. Contractors

are working diligently and although the weather has delayed us some, those involved are

still confident we will be ready to go on time. With the cement slab completed along with

90% of the structural foundation, the pavilion is starting to take shape. All of the

furnishings and fixtures have been ordered to complete the look of what is sure to be the

talk of the Club this season. We are currently marketing for a team of hospitality interns

who are sure to carry out our service culture and cater to your every want and need.

Upgraded dining area, poolside bar, TVs, and abundant new seating are just a few of the

amenities you’re going to enjoy this summer. Although our pool officially opens on

Memorial Day weekend, save the date for our Hamptons Dine Around at the Pool on

Saturday, June 27th as we kick off summer here at PHCC. The event will be nothing less

than spectacular! Follow us on Facebook and Twitter as we continue to update photos of

the project.

General Manager’s Corner

Dear Member,

As the 2015 season at Preakness Hills approaches we look to begin our membership initiative. There has never been a

better time to join Preakness Hills. Our up-to-date clubhouse facilities, our new tennis and pool pavilion and

unmatched services/amenities are just some of the reasons why we are fast becoming THE club to join in the

area. Clubs succeed because of their members, therefore we ask for your assistance in spreading the word on just

how great Preakness Hills really is. Do you have a family member, friend or business associate whom you think may

be interested in exploring membership? Just forward their contact information to either myself or Margaret O’Keefe.

We pride ourselves on our “no pressure” response to referrals and inquiries by providing all the pertinent information

required in a friendly and effective manner. On Sunday, March 22nd we will be hosting our Membership Madness

event featuring fantastic food stations and family fun activities for the children. We encourage all of our members to

use this event to showcase our Club by presenting two complimentary golf guest fees to every member who brings a

guest. Please contact Margaret O’Keefe or myself prior to attending so that we can properly welcome your guest. We

look to attract quality families who understand what and who we are as a club, our family friendly culture is very

important to our foundation and to the strong future of Preakness Hills.

Preakness Hills Country Club is proud to welcome Andrew Sirota as our new Tennis Professional. Andrew looks to

engage the membership and make Tennis at Preakness Hills fun and exciting. With a seasoned resume and ambition

to grow our program, he is the perfect fit. Andrew will test those who are striving to get better, coach others who are

starting out, and train anyone looking to become or stay fit. Andrew understands what it will take to elevate our

program and the management team is eager to assist him with anything he needs to make our tennis program relevant

in the market place. See you on the courts.

I also want to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank a long time member of our staff who is retiring. Pat

Banker has worked at Preakness for over 32 years. During that time, she has been a wonderful member of our

administrative staff. Please join me in thanking Pat for her many years of dedicated service and wishing her all the

best as she relocates to South Carolina. As you can see below, we have hired Chrissy Wolfson to assume Pat’s duties

with some help from our Executive Assistant, Audrey. As Assistant Controller, Chrissy will be working with our

Controller, Joann Chulamanis thereby staging a smooth transition when Joann retires the end of this season. The

transition will be challenging, but Chrissy, Audrey and myself are dedicated to providing you with a high level of

administrative member service and sound club accounting.

Our 2015 social calendar is filled with fun and appealing events. We make every effort to create events that interest a

vast majority of the membership base, while being cognizant of age ranges and gender. We can say with confidence,

that the 2015 season has a meal for everyone’s palette. We feel that great events such as “College Game Night”,

Dinner In The Grove”, “Hamptons Dine Around”, “Men’s and Ladies Nights Out”, “Comedy Night”, “Fall Food and

Wine Festival” and “NYC Dine Around” are sure to pique your interest and add excitement to your membership

experience. Please make sure to stay connected with our newsletters, weekly emails, and facebook/twitter updates to

better understand the details of all events. Audrey and Kim are always available to answer any questions you might

have. We look forward to providing you with the best in food, service, and atmosphere for all of our events this

year. Stay tuned and get ready to love your Club.

Sincerely,

James Messina

General Manager

Welcome Chrissy Wolfson

Please welcome our new Assistant Controller, Chrissy Wolfson to the

Preakness Hills family. Chrissy is coming on board to take on the

responsibilities of Pat Banker, who is retiring. Chrissy has her B.S. in Business

Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Montclair State

University. Her accounting career spans 14 years including positions at Price

Waterhouse, Sealed Air Corporation and most recently at North Jersey

Country Club. Chrissy is excited to join the team and looks forward to

meeting everyone and to providing a high level of member service. She

already has a good grasp of our accounting system and will continue to gain

knowledge of our business practices as the year progresses.

Chrissy resides in Wayne with her husband and their two daughters.

I am thrilled to once again serve this great club as the Golf Professional. As I enter my third season, I am

grateful for the support and confidence the members have shown me. Our participation levels have

increased every year and we will continue that trend in 2015. We have added new events to the golf

calendar for both men and women while continuing the great programs we’ve created to bring more

people to the game. I encourage all of you to make it a goal to play better golf in 2015. The first step to

that process is getting to the club to play, or practice. Come out one evening during the week and play a

few holes, stop by before heading home and practice for 30 minutes. Don’t let golf just be a weekend

activity. Every time you can spend a few minutes practicing, especially short shots and putting, you will

become more effective in your round. I will be asking each of you one simple question this

spring…“what’s your golfing goal for 2015”? It could be to break 90, it could be to make 2 pars in a row,

hit 10 fairways in a round, or it could be to make the cut for the club championship. Let’s all make

specific and measurable goals for our golf game in 2015 and my staff and I will help you get there. 2015

is going to be the year of improving!

I returned from the PGA show not only feeling empowered and energized for 2015, but also excited for

what is new with golf equipment and apparel. We will continue to have a wide variety of equipment

from Callaway, Titleist, Mizuno, Taylor Made, Odyssey, Adams, Nike, and Ping. Some of the highlights

will be new Callaway Big Bertha irons, Taylor Made Aero Burner Driver, Nike Vapor products, Ping

G30 driver, and perhaps the most innovative change in golf balls, the Callaway Chrome Soft which

provides the softest feel of any ball on the market, with a long distance profile off the tee. It’s truly the

best of both worlds.

The last bit of news I’d like to announce will be a special trip I’m planning for our members in April. We

will be taking on Southwest Ireland’s most gorgeous layouts such as Tralee, Ballybunion (old & new

course), Waterville, and Old Head. Accommodations are all 5 star and we will have our own private

coach with driver to take us around the Emerald Isle. There are just a few remaining spots, so if you

have interest on a trip that EVERY golfer must take at least once in their lifetime, please drop me a line

and I’ll fill you in on the details.

I’m looking forward to an amazing season and hope to see you at the Club soon.

Even though we have had a good amount of snow as of late, our greens team has been hard at work with

winter maintenance and projects. Prior to the snow, some of you may have noticed the turf covers on the

banks of our 18th green. Thanks to great weather this past fall, we were able to re-sod the banks around

the green. We feel this will add to the beauty and health of our signature hole. We have also re-sodded

around bunkers on #3, #15 and #16 as well as installed a planting behind the 16th green which will grow to

cover the unattractive fence. Tree pruning and removal of dead and damaged trees is just about complete.

As Chris Aumock has taken a position in his home state of Minnesota we have hired Ante Rogic as our

newest Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. Ante is a graduate of Montclair State University with a

B.S. in Business Management and earned his Turf Management degree from Rutgers. Due to the timing

of his hire, so far Ante has been instrumental in snow removal but I am confident that Preakness Hills will

benefit greatly from his vast experience at Baltusrol, Pine Valley, Liberty National, Plainfield CC and

Ridgewood CC. I feel that Ante is a great addition to our current team of Assistants, Tony Espe and Steve

Aspinall.

It’s finally here, after serving on the Board of GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendents Association of

America) for the past 7 years, I will assume the office of President at the Golf Industry Show in San

Antonio in late February. Thanks to the generosity of GCSAA, my family, our Assistant Superintendents

and our General Manager, James will be present to help mark the occasion. I would like to extend special

thanks to the Board of Governors and members of Preakness Hills for your gracious support throughout

my journey to this professional achievement. I hope that I have brought distinction to our amazing club.

As I travel throughout the world representing GCSAA it’s always a great feeling to come home to

Preakness Hills.
