Welcome to GUtech, the German University of

Technology in Oman – the only German university in

the Gulf region!

All of our current Bachelor of Science programmes

have received international accreditation and the

Bachelor of Engineering and the Master of Science

mes to the people of the Middle East and beyond.

With very strong links to RWTH Aachen University, the

leading University of Technology in Germany, GUtech

provides its students with a world-class education

based on tailor-made programmes, highly motivated

and internationally experienced lecturers and ad-

vanced teaching methodology focused on students’

needs.

GUtech, the only German university in the Gulf region,

combines teaching, research and consultancy to pro-

duce highly-trained graduates who are knowledge-

able, responsible and motivated, forming the founda-

tion upon which their future careers are built. The Pre-

University, Bachelor and Master programmes offered

at GUtech are characterised by German excellence

and all students are closely mentored to maximise

all Foundation Year and Bachelor students and oppor-

tunities to travel to Germany – if it is a compulsory

part of the programme.

Germany is well known for its development of ideas

and is the home of many modern inventions, such as

the light bulb, refrigerator, telephone, automobile, te-

levision, jet engine, chip card , the MP3 player, and the

hard disk revolution to mention a few! German edu-

cation and German universities of technology have

played a central role in all of these inventions.

Since 2007, GUtech, a university founded on German

education, has been offering academic programmes

in Oman. The programmes of study were developed

and are being supervised by RWTH Aachen University

which is located in Germany and is one of the most

successful universities of technology in Europe. For

more than 140 years, RWTH Aachen University has

been producing successful graduates, many of whom

went on to become important CEO’s, high-ranking

government representatives and famous scientists.

With the establishment of GUtech in Oman, RWTH

Acting as the parent university, RWTH Aachen Univer-

sity is guiding the development of GUtech to ensure

the programmes of study offer the highest level

of tertiary education possible in Oman. All Bachelor

of Science programmes have received international

accreditation and the Bachelor of Engineering and

the Master of Science programmes will soon be sub-

mitted for international accreditation. The language of

instruction is English while German is taught as an

additional language.

[GUtech-Special Features]

Some of GUtech’s unique features include

ranking international universities, thus guaranteeing an international quality of

teaching.

Research plays an essential role at the University and ensures that the curriculum

is current.

GUtech considers a very close mentoring of its students as one of the most im-

portant tasks. This individualised mentoring allows professors and lecturers to be

constantly aware of the actual progress of students.

GUtech organises trips to Germany for successful students.

GUtech provides Bachelor students with laptops

throughout their stay at the University and students also have access to a wireless

network on campus.

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) is internationally accredited. This means that

GUtech students can continue their studies anywhere around the world.

GUtech students have access to the facilities of RWTH Aachen University, inclu-

ding laboratories and library.

GUtech provides students with international experience.

Successful completion of GUtech’s Foundation Year Programme requires a pass in all

IELTS of 6.0, with no band below 5.0.

As English is the medium of instruction at GUtech, a main

objective of the Pre-University Programme is to develop

GUtech’s Pre-University Programme will also prepare

students in other areas of knowledge relevant to their

future undergraduate studies, such as Mathematics,

entry into the University’s Bachelor programmes.

Before joining the programme, all students will be required to take the University’s English Placement Test. Students whose English skills must be

improved before entering the Foundation Year Programme will be given the opportunity to enrol into the Intensive English Programme. In the Intensive

English Programme, students will undertake up to 350 hours of English per semester. Students will be assessed on an on-going basis throughout

4.5, students will be eligible to progress to the Foundation Year Programme. In most cases, this is achieved after one or two semesters.
