Background
Keeping rural perspective in mind client selected Rajanpur for its upcoming project. Rajanpur is one the districts of
Southern Punjab which is an established poverty-stricken area. Population faces acute deprivation of basic human
needs like education, health, water and sanitation. District is located in extreme south of Punjab with a geographical
linkage with Sindh and Baluchistan. The said land is sandwiched by river Indus on one side and by Suleiman
Mountains range on the other. Rajanpur was badly affected due to floods in 2007, 2010 and 2012. General public do
not have any facility of hygiene and experienced inadequate water and poor sanitation. Common use of unsafe
drinking water, poor hygiene and improper sanitization practices among targeted communities contributed to high
mortality rates among children less than five years of age. There is a dire need to mobilize, sensitize and motivate
targeted communities to attain open defecation free status and adopt improved hygiene practices.
So project aims at contributing towards improved quality of life of targeted communities by bringing positive
changes in their behaviors through increased knowledge, positive attitudes and improved health & hygiene, water
and sanitation practices.
