The GreenbirdUp to 126 mph

The GreenbirdDue to the shape of the craft, especially at such

high speeds, the wings provide lift; a useful trait for an aircraft, but very hazardous for a car. To

compensate for this, the designers have added small wings to

"stick" the car to the ground, in the same way Formula 1 cars

do.

The Wind Explorer

The Wind ExplorerA German engineered vehicle called ‘Wind

Explorer’ has managed to travel 5000km across

Australia, using a combination of lithium batteries, a wind

turbine and a large kite.

VocabularyWind- blowing air What causes Wind?- Uneven heating of the atmosphere from the

sun- Irregularities of the earth’s surface- Rotation of the earth

Wind energy- describes the process by which wind is used to generate mechanical and electrical energy.

EnergyWhen and where do we use

energy?Ideas???Answer:

We use energy all of the time.

What is Energy?Energy is the ability to do work, to make things happen, to cause change, or to start motion.

Energy can move (be transferred) and change (be transformed) but it cannot be destroyed.

EnergyHumans use energy to be active

- To walk, talk, play basketball etc. We use energy to power our appliances, vehicles, lights etc

Life as we know it would not be possible without energy production and consumption

Energy Energy is everywhere!Sometimes you can:

Hear energy (sound)Feel energy (wind)Taste energy (food)See Energy (light)

ActivityImagine what today would be like if there were

no electricity (permanently, not just a blackout).

On a separate sheet of paper: Develop a timeline of what your day would be like.

Consider what you would feel and what you would do.
