DESCRIPTION

NYSID's pre-college program will immerse you in the practice of interior design. You’ll study color, materials, architectural drawing, and digital media. You’ll be taught and advised by a professional in an introductory design studio. You’ll visit design firms and museums, and spend your down-time hanging out in the nation’s design capital. This program will build your portfolio, answer questions about your future, and a give you head start in interior design. Students receive one undergraduate credit for completion of this course.

WHAT:New York School of Interior Design’s Pre-College Program is a two-week course designed to immerse you in the creative and rewarding world of interior design. Classes are taught by professional interior designers — the same instructors who teach in NYSID’s degree programs.

Open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors, this course will introduce you to interior design and help you explore career possibilities. You’ll get to attend lectures by design professionals, see demonstrations of architectural drawings and digital media, and get to create your own designs in studio classes.

And, of course, NYSID is located in the heart of New York City, so you can take full advantage of everything the city has to offer. In addition to classes at NYSID, there will be field trips to interior design firms, museums, and notable sites throughout the city.

HOW MUCH:$1,030This includes a Career Kit — all the supplies you’ll need including an architect’s triangular scale, drafting tape, a topaz triangle, drawing pencils, and more.Housing is available for an additional fee; offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION!NYSID is hosting a scholarship competition. Create a collage of your dream room and write a brief essay to enter for this full-tuition scholarship. SAMPLE DAY

1:30-4:00 Visit a design studio in SoHo to learn what the day-to-day life of an interior designer is really like.

9:30 AM Grab some breakfast before a quick ride on the subway to class.

10:00-12:30 Take the Intro to Hand Drafting studio class.

12:30-1:30 Have lunch with classmates on the NYSID roof terrace while taking in great views of the Upper East Side.

The Pre-College Program was such an intense experience. We covered a lot of ground in 2 weeks! Not only was it a great introduction to the interior design field, it was a great introduction to the College. After it was over I decided this was the career AND the school for me!
