Hello ☺ Wow7 August already! It goes by so quickly these days, especially with so much going on! PRIMA have been extremely busy so far this year, with our Theatre Restaurant ‘A Night in Motown’, where we welcomed our new MD Terry Million along with some new faces (Welcome); the PRIMA Choir, where we welcomed Naomi Drogemuller as our new Choir Mistress, along with some new faces (Welcome again), and our Winter Concert Series also bringing about even more new faces! A warm welcome to all! With all these wonderful events of late, not to mention our future plans, comes a massive amount of behind the scenes work7 often overlooked and underappreciated7. So with that said, I would like to take this opportunity to give my appreciation, on behalf of PRIMA. Many thanks to our Committee members who dedicate so much of their time to the actual running of PRIMA7 But also to those wonderful people who always offer their assistance wherever they can! It is great to have many dedicated people, and fantastic friends, as part of our group. So thank you for all your hard work to make PRIMA the best it can be! Everyone does put in an enormous amount of volunteer time and does so with great spirit and happy hearts. ☺ ☺ On another note7 Our new venue is under way! The land has been levelled, basic foundations are down, and now to wait for the structure to begin! We are fortunate to have a few of our members witnessing the building progress on a daily basis and reporting back. For now, the estimated finish date is the end of January 2012, weather permitting7 which will be wonderful for JC! Personally, I am looking forward to treading the new boards, and having somewhere to call ‘home’. Until next time,
KymWhittington

CONGRATULATIONS PRIMA
On Sunday 31st July, PRIMA President Kym Whittington,
presented The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation’s
representative Sharon Fankhauser, with a cheque for over
$2000.00 to support in Medical Research, after the recent
success of “A Night in Motown”

MAY 2011
Another successful Theatre Restaurant Season came to a close recently with the final performance of “A Night in Motown”. Skillfully Musically Directed by Terry Million with visually stunning Choreography and set design by Alena Robinson, Motown continued the tradition of the all singing, all dancing theatre restaurants that have cemented PRIMA’s place as the premiere provider of light musical entertainment in the in the local area and surrounding suburbs. A sell-out on final night ensured patrons will need to be quicker off the mark to ensure they get seats for our next production! With compere Toby Roos, and an enthusiastic and obviously happy cast on stage, the show highlighted many of the great hits that were released on the famous Motown label. It was pleasing to welcome some new members to our theatre family and also to see some old friends return to us. I am sure the enjoyable time they spent with PRIMA will see them return for future productions. The show was a great financial success and enabled us to donate over $2,000 to our new partner, The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation. Well done and a huge thankyou to everyone involved – production team, backstage, lighting and sound, kitchen and bar, front of house and, of course, the cast!

Earlier this year the
Management Committee came
up with the idea of staging a
series of Sunday afternoon
concerts to showcase the
wonderful talent we have in
our ranks here at PRIMA.
Usually the period ‘between
shows’ is quiet for both our
performers and patrons, so the
concerts were devised with a
twofold purpose – to give our
members an opportunity to
continue to perform and to
keep our name to the forefront
in the public’s mind. The
concept has been kept
deliberately simple – a small
venue, a modest (but as it has
turned out sumptuous!)
afternoon tea, small group of
performers and accompanists,
but great music and lots of fun!
The first concert in the series
took place on Sunday 26th June.
“An Afternoon with Andrew
Lloyd Webber” was musically
directed by Mark Beilby and
featured a host of songs from the
great many hits written by this
prolific Musical Theatre genius.
Phantom, Evita, Joseph,
Superstar, Aspects of Love,
Sunset Boulevard, Cats, Whistle
down the Wind, Starlight
Express and Tell Me on a
Sunday were all represented with
great performances from all
involved.
Toby Roos compered
delightfully with the help of a
great script from Angela Witcher
and we once again welcomed
some new vocalists to our group.
I am sure we will see them again.
A successful day was enjoyed
immensely by all who came and
all who participated.
On Sunday 31st July, concert two
presented “An Afternoon with
The Great American Songbook”.
With the content devised by
Terry Million and drawn from
the great American composers of
the 20th Century – Arlen,
Gershwin, Porter and the like – a
small group again performed to
an enthusiastic audience. With
accompaniment from Mark
Beilby (Piano), Cameron
Patterson (Guitar) and Colin
Scott (Bass), and compere
Melissa Beilby, it was great to
bring an entirely different type of
musical content to the audience
and prove just how versatile our
performers can be. It was terrific
to also have our own PRIMA
Choir involved.
Our thanks go to all involved in
this new concept – particularly to
Nathan Brant and Wayne Stuart
for helping us out on the
technical and staging side of
things, and to all the performers
(and bakers!) who have given
their time to us.
Concert three, “An Afternoon on
Broadway” featuring more
classics from the world of
Musical Theatre is:
SUNDAY 28th AUGUST
2.00PM

PRIMA would like to welcome Naomi Drogemuller,
as the new choir mistress! Naomi brings with her
great passion and flare, and we are extremely
fortunate to have her expertise leading our
wonderful choir this year! ☺
Report from Naomi:
The PRIMA choir has been rehearsing every
Wednesday night since mid-February
and have been going strong. Challenges are being
met and a lot of fun is being had!
The choir has recently performed at:
~ July Friends & Family Night
~ “An Afternoon with the Great American Songbook”
in July; and
~ The Pine Rivers Show, on 6th
August (in the ‘Big
Top’).
All choristers, including our new members are
loving showing off their skills within the local
community.
Future dates will include PRIMA’s Winter Concerts in
August and September, and the always
anticipated Christmas in the Park, where they will be
performing with PRIME Band, Chrislyn Hamilton
(from Australian Idol) and other stars!
I'd like to personally thank everyone in the choir for
making me feel so welcome, it has been
an absolute joy to work with vocalists who love
attending rehearsals and working hard to
bring the music to life.
Yours in music,
Naomi Drogemuller
P.S. If you love to sing, but the big stage is not your
thing, we would love to see you! Come and be a part
of our Choir. Have fun singing and meeting new
friends. Contact PRIMA on 3882 2102.

Thanks to those who turned out for the
recent working bee at the house.
Thanks in particular to Colin Scott and
Wayne Stuart for the building works
and wardrobe “redevelopment”!
We now have a beautifully organised
props room and have made a great
start on our two wardrobe rooms.
Another working bee will be held soon
concentrating on the wardrobe rooms
including photographing and
cataloguing our ever-increasing stock
of wardrobe resources.
This is becoming more important as
other societies such as Redcliffe
Musical Theatre and Squids are
approaching us for loan of equipment
and wardrobe.
Keep an eye out on the website for a
date.
ALSO… Special thanks to Ronalda
(Ronnii) Cook who has been busy
brightening up our rehearsal room with
newly painted walls, and for also
installing the air con with Michael
Ryan, that was desperately needed!
THANK YOU ☺
