Announcements
Church Activity Schedule – A Sunday
adult Bible class at 9:00am and the 10:15am
worship service are offered in-person in the
Worship Center and online on the church
website. Other Bible classes and activities
(except for the food pantry) will remain
canceled until further notice. An online
Bible study is available on Wednesdays at
6:30pm on Facebook Live, and the
children’s and youth ministries continue to
offer online activities.
Elders’ Request – Should any member
receive a diagnosis of COVID-19, the elders
would appreciate being informed so that
adjustments to our reopening plans can be
made, if needed. The person’s identity will
be kept confidential unless permission is
given to release that information.
Food Pantry – If you would like to
donate items to the food pantry, you may
drop them off at the Christian Service
Center by placing them in the entryway just
inside the front door (which will remain
unlocked). Volunteers under age 60 are
needed to help distribute food at the pantry
from 1:00-3:00pm on Mondays and
Wednesdays.
Ministry Minute – Check out our
Ministry Minute videos on the church’s
YouTube and social media pages. A new
video is posted each Monday, Wednesday,
and Friday.
Prayer Warriors – Join Prayer
Warriors to make meaningful connections
with our teens and help them grow in their
faith. You will be paired with a student and
asked to pray for and send encouraging
notes to that student throughout the school
year. To sign up, email the following
information to Melinda at melindaweav-
[email protected]: your name, birthday,
email address, phone number, address,
favorite color, and hobbies/interests. The
deadline to sign up is September 1. If you
were a part of this ministry last year, please
contact Melinda to let her know whether or
not you plan to participate again this year.
Grief Support Group Online – After
several months’ suspension, our grief
support group is scheduled to resume on
Sunday, September 13. The group will meet
online through Zoom from 3:00-5:00pm
each Sunday. For more information on how
to join the meeting, contact Janie Teague at
[email protected] or 817-219-1620.
Footsteps of Paul Tour in October –
You are invited to go with Calvin and Judy
Warpula on a Footsteps of Paul tour to
Turkey and Greece October 3-14. They will
visit Istanbul, the sites of the seven churches
of Asia, Patmos, Crete, Santorini, Athens
and Corinth. For a tour brochure and all
details, call or text Calvin at 713-669-0137
or email at [email protected].
Worship Assembly Protocols
If you are sick, have a compromised immune system, or feel uneasy about returning to a
large group of people, please stay home and worship with us online.
Practice social distancing - 2 empty seats between people not related and visit outdoors.
Wear a mask and use hand sanitizer. Both are available at the entrances.
Restrooms are open on a limited basis. Water fountains are closed.
Use the portable communion set in the tray of the seat in front of you. Place your
contribution in one of the designated boxes at the entrances, give online through the
church website, or mail your contribution to the church office.

Anchor for the Soul
Anchors are a part of the essential
equipment found on any ship and are used
for a variety of reasons and circumstances.
They are dropped in tranquil waters, as
when stopping for the night or waiting for a
berth in port, to prevent a ship from drifting
away because of slight winds, tides, or
currents. Anchors are also utilized when a
ship is engulfed in a storm, to avoid running
aground on sandbars or being dashed
against protruding rocks.
The writer of Hebrews compares our hope in Christ to a ship’s anchor. During
peaceful times we, like the unanchored ship, are in danger of drifting away from God
because of the subtle pull of the world around us. Our hope in Christ keeps us where
we should be.
In the storms of life, we also, like the ship, are at risk of running aground and
becoming lodged on a sandbar of discouragement or being broken apart by the sharp
rocks of grief or despair. Our hope in the Lord will hold us steady and help us ride
out the storm.
Through this imagery “…we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us
may be greatly encouraged” (Hebrews 6:18).
