The George E. Thorne Development Center (GETDC) is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt not-for-profit corporation, whose mission is to empower individuals to control their destiny by equipping them with the essential tools needed in the areas of education, healthcare, finance and related issues. Anita T. Conner, CPA, MST, CFP® created GETDC in 2000 and named it in memory

About

ABOUT US

George E. Thorne Development Center

of her father. George E. Thorne was a native of Philadelphia who started his own engineering firm at a time when business opportunities were frequently denied to African-Americans. As a certified public accountant and financial advisor with her own successful small business, Anita created GETDC to share with young adults the lessons learned of hard work, perseverance, self-confidence, and financial management which was her father’s legacy to her.

In 2006, The George E. Thorne Development Center expanded its mission with the founding of Praise Is The Cure® (PITC). Each year African American women are dying from breast cancer at alarming rates, because prevention tools, breast health education, and resources for treatment are not readily available. PITC was founded to put an end to this needless trend. As a result of a first hand encounter with the deadly disease and after personally navigating through the difficulties of advanced stage breast cancer themselves, the founder Anita T. Conner and her daughter Kerri M. Conner saw how much education and breast health awareness were needed in the African American community.

Praise Is The Cure® recognizes the need for targeted information and education for African American women and their families. Through a mix of community outreach, entertainment, and educational wellness programs, PITC has reached more than 100,000 people.

The goal is simple:Create more survivors and galvanize communities to take part in

the fight against breast cancer

No longer can we be aware of the devastating statistics and gruesome outcomes of breast cancer and ignore those who die without a chance to fight, fail to support their caregivers, and not share the wealth of knowledge we’ve acquired that can save lives.

Praise Is The Cure® Week of Hope, Health, and Healing enables women to receive mammograms and other health screenings each year, celebrates patients and survivors and educates communities that are losing the fight from lack of breast health education. Each year, PITC is changing the story, realigning the statistics, and is welcoming new warriors that support the urgency for a cure in the African American community. We fight today so we can celebrate tomorrow!

PITC is supported by thousands of people who have caught the vision of Hope, Health and Healing through education, access to resources, and perseverance.
