In Colossians 4:2-4, Paul writes to the Church at Colossae, “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison—that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.” In this passage, Paul asks the church for prayer for himself and for the other men who traveled and ministered with him. Like Paul, I would like to make the same request of the church family at First United. Would you please commit afresh to praying for myself, other ministry leaders, and the First United family? There were several times in the past two weeks when the Lord seemed to open my eyes and showed me some of the results of prayer at First United. These glimpses of answered prayers have reminded me that prayer is a primary calling of the Church and I, therefore, ask for continued prayer. Below I have listed a few ways you can pray for the pastoral staff, ministry leaders, and ministry of First United. COMMUNION WITH GOD/HOLINESS • For a soft-heart to be sensitive to the convicting and counseling ministry of the Holy Spirit • For a hunger to feed on the Bible • For fellowship with Christ in daily tasks • For faith to fight against temptation • For eyes to see personal sin; for a repentant heart For perseverance in the tasks to which we are called VISION • For First United’s vision to be of the Lord and not of man • For patience to wait upon the Lord’s leading • For courage to follow the Lord and for courage to say no to good things • For understanding about the specific calling that God has for First United WISDOM To lead family with gentleness, joy, and conviction • To understand how to rightly apply the Bible • To discern how to best use time and resources • That the joy of the Lord would be both physical and spiritual strength CHURCH • For truth-telling with grace to produce further unity • For the Lord to raise up new preachers, teachers, leaders, missionaries and strong families • For people to trust in Jesus Christ for the first time and be born-again. • For those who will have trials in the coming year to suffer with perseverance and great hope in Christ • For each member at First United to know how to be able to use his/her gifts to build up the Body of Christ. I am so appreciative of the way that you pray for me and for the church family and I ask that you persevere in the good work of prayer. Apart from Him, we can do nothing, but if we remain in the Vine, we bear much fruit!
