Money MattersPractice Money Handling

Girls will practice money handling skills with this interactive change counting activity.

Roll the financial literacy dice to build money handling skills. Money management is a key skill girls will learn and use throughout the cookie sale. Engage girls in this change counting activity to build their skills and confidence in making change.

Supplies � Dice templates (Cookie Die and Money Die) � Play money � Calculator (make it fun and use a giant calculator!) � Change chart � Toy cash register or change box � Cookie boxes and/or mock cookie booth (optional)

Preparation:� Print out dice templates on cardstock. Cut out and fold into dice shape, using tape or glue.� Set-up table or mock cookie booth with cookie boxes, play money, change chart, calculator and cash box.� Fill in the change chart with the correct information, according to your council’s cookie price.Instructions:� Invite girls to roll both dice. Using the information on the dice, guide her in making change for the proposed purchase. Example: The dice shown above displays that she has sold 1 box of Samoas, and the customer paid with a $10 bill. If their council package price is $4.00 per box, then the girl should count out $6 in change.� Guide them in referencing the change chart and the calculator as needed.
