PRACTICAL TRAINING SESSIONS
WehaveenlistedsomeofIreland’sforemoststreettheatre,specialeffectsandspectacleexpertstodeliverthoseelementsoftheprogrammethatconcentrateonthecreativedesignandmakingprocesses.Theseenjoyablehands-onworkshopswillbeparticularlyusefulforyouth/communityartsworkersandyouthworkers/leaders.Techniqueslearnedshouldhelpyouplanandcreateexcitingmemorableeventsofasmallormoreambitiousscale.
Nationalresourceagencies(AOIFE,NationalYouthCouncilofIrelandandtheArtsCouncil)willfocusoncriticalissuessuchaschildprotectionpolicies,marketing,legalandinsurancerequirements,healthandsafety,financeandfundraising.Increasingly,publicandprivatefundingbodiesdemand
thatcommitteesareworkingeffectivelytoaddresstheseissueswhichwhenproperlyconsidered,leadtosustainable,organised,safe,well-attendedevents.Weencourageyoutonominateafewpeopletoattendfromyourgroup/festivalcommittee,sothatlearningcanbesharedandsustained.
Participantsmayattendone,severalorallofthesessions.Placesarelimitedandwillbeallocatedonafirstcomebasis.
TheenclosedbookingformmustbecompletedandsubmittedbyWednesday15thSeptember.

Each company will give a presentation about their work followed by a Q & A session. The afternoon sessions will focus on different elements in hands on workshops. Please note the morning sessions are open to a maximum of 35 people and the afternoon sessions are limited according to workshop.

Buí BolgareastreettheatrecompanybasedinWexford.Theycreatelargescalestreetspectacles,paradesandeventswithalotofcommunityinvolvement.BuíBolghaveperformedateventssuchasStPatricksFestivalandBealtaineandevenasfarafieldasSingapore.
LucyMedlycott,CofounderandManagerofBuíBolgwillbetakingusthroughthestepsofhowtodeviseanexcitingandengagingparadewhichinvolvesadiverserangeofcommunitystrands.Shewillbelookingateverythingfromthepurelypracticaltothemorephilosophicalreasonsofwhyandhowto!

2.00pm – 5.00pm:Basicbudgetmaterials,PropmakingandCarnivalbackpackmakingworkshop(20 participants).
Artastichasahistorysteepedincommunitystreettheatreandartseducation,skilledinboththedesignandproductionofcostumes,propsandpuppetsfortheatre,filmandparades.ArtastichasmadeasignificantimpactontheculturallifeofcommunitiesthroughoutIreland.

Dublin City Council Arts Office is delighted to offer an exciting new free training programme designed to support both Youth and Community based festivals (and event organisers) in the city’s neighbourhoods. We hope you will find the programme inspirational and practical.
ArtisticDirector,VijayaBatesonwillgiveapresentationontheworkofArtasticandwillcoveravarietyoftopicssuchas:effectiveplanningofcommunityevents,simplifyingapproachtocommunityparades,basicintroductiontoprocessionalmovementandmanipulationofbasicbudgetmaterials.
Saturday: 20th November – MACNAS
11.30 – 1.00pm:Introduction/Casting,schedulingandmanagingvolunteers.
2.00pm – 5.00pm:WillowandlanternmakingworkshopwithafocusonSignaturefloats/LightingandanimatingparadepieceswithDaveDonovan(15 participants).
MacnashasbeencreatingperformancesinGalwayforover23years.Theseperformanceshavebeencreatedwiththecommunity,forthecommunityandhaveformedthecentrepieceofeachyear’sGalwayArtsFestival.Fromthebeginning,Macnashascombinedthissenseof
communitywithadesiretoproduceworktothehighestpossibleartisticstandard.
SharonO’GradywillgiveanintroductionandoverviewofMacnas’workandhowtheygoaboutcasting,schedulingandmanagingvolunteers.
Tuesday: 26th October Special Effects Workshop
SpecialEffectsMake-upworkshopwithMakeupFabLiciousAcademy.“Frombruisestowitches–yourintroductionintotheworldofSpecialEffectsMake-up”.
Please note this workshop is open to youth workers and teenagers only and booking is through a separate application form (21 participants).
