Some basic features of QPA :

1.QUICK PATH INTERCONNECT

2.CACHE FORWARDING

3.INTEGRATED MEMORY CONTROLLER

CASE 1:DATA REQUIRED BY THE PROCESSOR IS LOCATED IN ITS OWN CACHE:

IT REDUCES THE LATENCY.

INTEL HAS INTRODUCED INTEGRATED MEMORY CONTROLLER WITH EACH PROCESSOR ,TO SPEED UP THE DATA MOVEMENT.

Page 11: ppt on i7 Processor

In the new architecture, Intel has made Quick Path Interconnects to cop with this situation, providing high speed data transfers between the processors.

Page 12: ppt on i7 Processor

For this case, Intel has provided Integrated Memory Controller with each processor. Each controller has 3 paths to the memory

This technology boosts CPU performance by increasing frequency of one or more cores. How much the frequency is increased depends on the number of active cores.

Factors that set the upper limit of intel turbo boost technology on a given work load are:

1. Number of active cores 2. Estimated current consumption 3. Estimated power consumption4. Processor temprature

Intel hyper threading technology allows one core on the processor to appear like 2 cores to the operating system.this doubles the execution resources available to the os ,which potentially increases the performance of overall system, thus increasing the multi tasking capability.

Page 16: ppt on i7 Processor

Other than basic day to day computing this processor gives excellent gaming performance .this processor will give u true multi tasking experience & also present eye smashing 3d- graphics

Page 17: ppt on i7 Processor

Basically laptop CPUs focuses on maximum power savings at expense of performance.but to cover up this draw back Intel has launched intel i7 series with different outstanding features. With the help of turbo boost technology clock speed is increased within temperature & power limit .this shows efficiency increase without loosing extra power .And QPA is designed such that it reduces execution time & latency time.A big advantage of QPI is that it is point to point .it eliminates the competition between processors for bandwidth. Also instead of sharing a single shared pool of memory connected to all the processors through FSB & memory controller hubs ,each processor have its own dedicated memory that it acess directly through an Integrated memory controller.
