INTRODUCTION
Internetis a global system ofinterconnected computer networks that use thestandard Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) toserve billions of users worldwide. It is a networkof networksthat consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government
networks, of local to global scope, that arelinked by a broad array of electronic and opticalnetworking technologies.
The Internet carries a vast rangeof information resources and services,
such as the interlinked hypertext documentsof the World Web (WWW) and the infrastructureto support electronic mail.

History Of Internet
The Internet was originally developed by DARPA -the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency -as a means to share information on defenseresearch between involved universities and defenseresearch facilities.
Originally it was just email and FTP sites as well as
the Usenet, where scientists could question andanswer each other. It was called ARPANET (Advanced Research
Projects Agency NETwork). The concept was developed starting in 1964, and
the first messages passed were between UCLA and
the Stanford Research Institute in 1969. Leonard Kleinrock of MIT had published the first
paper on packet switching theory in 1961. Once the concept was proven, the organizations
involved started to lay out some ground rules forstandardization.

One of the most important was the communicationsprotocol, TCP/IP, developed by Vint Cerf and Robert Kahn in1974.
Robert Metcalfe is credited with Ethernet, which is thebasic communication standard in networked computers.
Al Gore really did have a substantial part in the US legalframework and governmental issues related to the Internet;he never said he invented it.
There wasn't just ONE person who invented the Internet. The Internet is just a way to view files and information thatsomeone puts onto a server. The Internet is just a way toaccess the information.
Leonard Kleinrock was the first person to write a paper onthe idea of packet switching (which is essential for theInternet to work. He wrote this idea in 1961.
Tim Berners-Lee, who perhaps specified technologicalapplicability and/or linguistic construction of HTML whileworking at CERN, is chiefly credited for the ease of use andwide public adoption of the web.

DISADVANTAGES OF INTERNET
1.Theft of Personal inform ation :-Internet users face grave danger as your personal informationsuch as n ame, address, credit card number etc. can be accessedby other culpr i ts to m ake you r problems worse.
2.Spamming:Spamm ing refers to sending unwanted e-mai ls in bulk, whichprovide no purpo se and needlessly o bstruct th e ent i re sys tem .
3.Virus threat:Virus is no th ing but a program wh ich disrupts the normalfunct ion ing of you r com puter systems. Computers at tached to
internet are more prone to viru s attacks and they can end up intocrashing you r who le hard disk.

exponentially. Some of this growth in impact has been
described here. In this new world there is nogeographical separation and there are no

CONCLUSION It helps us in many ways. Hence is very useful to human beings Internet is also very big threat to computers as it can lead tovirus spamming etc. Thus I would like to conclude by saying that internet can also
create havoc destruction and its misuse can be very fatal theadvantages of it outweigh its disadvantages.
