WINDOW AND THROUGH WALL Room air conditioners come in

two forms: unitary andpackagedterminal(PTAC) systems. Unitarysystems, the common one roomair conditioners, sit in a window

or wall opening, with interiorcontrols. Interior air is cooled asa fan blows it over theevaporator. On the exterior theair is heated as a second fanblows it over the condenser. Inthis process, heat is drawn fromthe room and discharged to theenvironment. A large house orbuilding may have several suchunits, permitting each room tobe cooled separately.
