History Museum, March 17-October 14, 2012: the largest exhibit ever organized on Texas music history, the Texas Music Roadtrip included an exhibit, a live music series, and a variety of educational activities. The exhibit earned critical acclaim and attracted approximately 250,000 visitors to the Bullock Museum.

Executive Producer, Texas Music Café: award-winning PBS television series featuring live musical performances along with historical documentaries on Texas music. Creator, Writer, and Narrator of This Week in Texas Music History: a weekly NPR program focusing on Texas music history. In its sixth year, This Week in Texas Music History is broadcast weekly on National Public Radio and Texas Public Radio affiliate stations throughout the Southwest to an estimated audience of one million listeners. The NPR show, Texas Music Matters, of which This Week in Texas Music History is a regular feature, won the 2013 International Radio Festivals of New York Award for “Best Regularly Scheduled Music Program,” beating out the New York Philharmonic and other nationally syndicated programs. Also, the Austin Chronicle named Austin’s NPR affiliate, KUT 90.5 FM, “Best Radio Station of 2013” and specifically mentioned This Week in Texas Music History as one of the programs that helped earn KUT this award.

Editorial Board Member, The Handbook of Texas Music: the first and only encyclopedia of Texas and Southwestern music history, originally published by the Texas State Historical Association in 2003, the revised and updated Second Edition of The Handbook of Texas Music was published in 2012.

The Texas Music History Online Web Site Project: a collaborative project involving the Center for Texas Music History, the Texas State Historical Association, Texas Music Office, and the Texas Historical Commission to develop a multi-layered, interactive web site, which will include information regarding Texas music history and historical points of interest throughout the state. This web site will serve as a database for researchers, a teaching tool for classrooms, and a source of information for music related heritage tourism. Texas Music Oral History Program: a collaborative project with the Department of History in which we assist graduate students in conducting oral interviews with prominent members of the music community. These interviews are archived and made available for researchers.

History Museum exhibit “Country Music from the Lone Star State,” 2003. Texas Music History Unplugged concert series: an annual series of musical performances designed to educate students and the general public about how Texas music reflects the history and cultural diversity of the American Southwest. Stars of Texas Music Legacy Series: This series, done in collaboration with the College of Fine Arts and Communication, matches veteran Texas musicians with up-and-coming artists from various genres as a way to teach students about the state’s long-term musical heritage.

Travelin’ Texas CD series: A collection of CDs, which include songs from a diverse array of prominent Texas musicians. These CDs serve as both an educational and fundraising resource. Texas Music Bibliography Online: produced in collaboration with the Texas Music Office/Office of the Governor, an extensive on-line bibliography of books, articles, and other publications pertaining to the history of music in Texas and the Southwest.

The acquisition of new collections to Texas State University’s Texas Music Archives:

including the Guadalupe San Miguel, Jr., Archives, Ernie Durawa Archives, Brian T. Atkinson Archives, Linda Lowe Archives, Tamara Saviano Archives, Tom Wilmore Collection, Jack DeVere Archives, Mike Crowley Archives, Roger Polson and Cash Edwards Archives, Jim Gough Western Swing Archives, Wayne Beckham/Panther Hall Archives, and Clay Blaker Archives.

Community Outreach: includes working with museums, public schools, universities,

and others to organize educational exhibits, performances, and presentations that demonstrate how Texas music reflects the unique history and diverse culture of the Southwest.

Publicity: appearances on KUT-FM’s nationally-recognized radio program “Folkways,” as well as on Austin-area television programs, and feature articles in a variety of newspapers and periodicals throughout the country, including Billboard Magazine, Texas Music Magazine, Southwestern Historical Quarterly, Dallas Morning News, San Antonio Express-News, Austin American Statesman, San Marcos Daily Record, Chautauquan, Free Press, Hillviews, and the University Star. Fundraising: raised more than $1 million through donations, grants, fundraising events, and CD sales to fund the Center for Texas Music History’s many activities, including: $100,000 grant from the PSH Foundation in support of the Texas Music Roadtrip exhibit at the
