SEPTEMBER 2013 3 FOCUS ON POWDER COATINGS It was concluded that the AFM- based technique of local impedance spectroscopy of organic coatings makes it possible to identify and spatially localize the points of polymer degradation. It provides more information than the classical impedance technique performed on a global scale since it overcomes the shortcomings of averaging results over the entire surface area under investigation. The technique offers substantial potential where detection of discrete faults in polymer coating is needed. It is free from electrolyte and offers a new tool in materials engineering that has not been applied previously.
