As I’m not here, just a few things…

• STFC H&S Improvement Plan• Incident reporting and near misses• Safety Tour

STFC Health & Safety Improvement Plan

• You’ll have seen this from on high (emails, posters, etc.)• Three key objectives:– Improve the quality of STFC SHE Risk Assessments – Embed an integrated IT inventory of radioactive materials at

RAL – Increase reporting of near misses

• Coming up will be a root & branch review of risk assessments. Shouldn’t actually be too onerous but I’ll need cooperation from lots of people. More details soon.

Incident Reporting and Near Misses

• As you have seen this is one of the CEO’s safety priorities.• I have hassled SHE Group about difficulty of entering incident

details, particularly on non-Windows/Internet Explorer machines.– Have been assured that multi-browser compatibility is due to be in

SHE Enterprise by the end of 2012.• Please make sure you and your staff enter incidents though –

some people feel that they are too important and busy to do this.– Hypothetical example: if a screw falls on you from a piece of

overhead equipment this is exactly the sort of thing that could be a sign of something worse to happen soon, so needs to be reported.

Safety Tour

• I’m somewhat overdue on this, but will be organising a tour soon. Hopefully end of this month.

• There is a possibility that we will have the CEO attending part of the next tour.

• Please can I have a volunteer to join the tour soon (probably appropriate to have someone from Div A given current membership is all Div B).
